You'll need the right routing number to transfer money in or out of your Charles Schwab bank account. Find yours and learn more about money transfers in our guide.

Routing numbers are 9-digit numbers that banks use to identify themselves. Think of them as the address that let other banks know where to find your money.

You need your routing number for many tasks, including:

  • ACH payments

  • Setting up direct deposit

  • Receiving benefits from the government, including tax refunds

  • Transferring money between accounts at different banks or investment firms

  • Automatic bill payment

  • Domestic wire transfers

Banks with branches in more than one state usually have more than one routing number. But Charles Schwab works a little differently. All customer accounts use the same ABA routing number.

Keep reading to learn how to find the right Charles Schwab routing number for your transaction.

Breaking down your routing number
The first four digits pertain to the Federal Reserve. The next four digits are unique to your bank. Consider those the bank's address for the Federal Reserve. The final digit is a mathematical calculation of the first eight digits—it's used to prevent check fraud.

Charles Schwab Routing Number

The routing number for all Charles Schwab bank accounts is 121202211.

That includes savings accounts—they use the same routing numbers as checking accounts. But you'll use a different routing number for wire transfers (more on that below).

To move your money, you'll also need the bank account number. Keep reading for some ways to find both.

Tip: Save for what matters most with a savings account. Enjoy the benefits of earning interest while keeping your money secure.

How to Find Your Charles Schwab Routing Number

Use a Check
You can find your routing and bank account number on the bottom of the checks connected to your checking account. The 9-digit routing number is on the bottom left of the check. The long series of digits beside it is your account number.

Go Online
Log into your Charles Schwab account portal online. Find the Accounts page, then navigate to History, and from there, Statements and Reports.

Click on your most recent statement to find your account and routing numbers.

Call Customer Service
If you don't have online access or a check handy, call Charles Schwab customer service at 877-519-1403. Representatives are available 24/7.

After you provide a few details to identify yourself, a representative will guide you to locate your account information.

Is There a Routing Number on Your Debit or Credit Card?
Although your debit card is associated with a bank account, you do not use a routing number for debit card transactions. Routing numbers are only used for transfers directly between bank accounts.

Likewise, credit cards do not have routing numbers since they are not directly linked to any bank account. When you pay your credit card online, you may need to use your bank account routing number to set up the link between your credit card account and checking account, like you would for any other bill.

Routing Numbers for Domestic/International Wire Transfers

Wire transfers are a faster way to send money than an ACH transfer, but they typically cost a fee. To wire funds with a personal Charles Schwab bank account, you can initiate the wire:

  • Online. The quickest way to request a domestic or foreign wire transfer is through Schwab.com, by going to Move Money > Send Wire. Make sure to submit online requests by 4:00 p.m. ET for same-day transfers.
  • By telephone
  • By submitting a completed Charles Schwab Bank Wire Transfer Request and Authorization Form before 2:30 p.m. ET on the day you'd like to send the wire transfer

You won't use the regular Charles Schwab routing for wire transfers. Keep reading to learn more.
