Bank of America: Best National Bank
One of the biggest upsides to working with a national bank is convenience. Bank of America has 36 financial centers within 15 miles of Orlando, which means it's easy to find a branch when you need one, and get access to ATMs and real human staff.
Bank of America's savings APY won't be as high as you'll find at an online bank, but they do offer a wide range of other products, including:
- Credit cards
- Home and auto loans
- Investing through Merrill
The Bank of America Advantage SafeBalance Banking® is a great start for students and young adults, the monthly service fee is waived for those under 25 years old, or if you maintain a minimum daily balance of $500 or more in your account, and no overdraft fees either.
The Bank of America Advantage Plus Banking® account provides overdraft protection, and they'll waive the $12 monthly fee with qualifying monthly direct deposits of $250 or more, or a minimum daily balance of $1,500.[1]
And the Bank of America Advantage Relationship Banking® account will accrue interest and they'll waive the $25 monthly fee when you maintain a minimum daily balance of $20,000 in your account during each statement cycle.

Suncoast Credit Union: Best Credit Union
Suncoast Credit Union is our pick for the best credit union for Orlando residents.
They have branches across western Florida, and membership is available to residents of the Orlando area, alumni of Florida College, and family of current members.
They offer interest rates that lie somewhere between online and brick-and-mortar banks. The Suncoast Credit Union Smart Checking account is a dividend-earning checking account that earns a generous rate, has no minimum balance, and no monthly fees.
Unfortunately, its interest rate on the Suncoast Credit Union Share Savings account isn't quite what you'll find at an online-only bank such as Ally.
You might consider a Suncoast Credit Union CD if you're looking for higher returns and can afford to put your money aside for a while.
While credit unions are smaller and may offer fewer features than major banks, they make up for it in low costs, fewer fees, and better customer service.
If you're looking for something a little more convenient than a credit union, you might consider Chase Bank.
Chase Bank: Best for Checking
Chase Bank has the most branches in the country, with more than 4,700. Florida, in particular, has 400+ physical locations, 21 of which are in the Orlando area.
But Chase actually performs a lot of its services online. They have an easy-to-use mobile app, which means that while Chase users have the option to visit a physical branch, most of the time they won't need to.
Chase's interest rates aren't quite as good as you'd find at a purely online bank, but they do frequently offer generous sign-up bonuses that might make up for it.
All three Chase checking accounts provide access to their branches and ATMs and online banking services, as well as a range of perks and features including Autosave automatic transfers.
Referral Program - Up to $500 Bonus
Earn $50 for every referred client who successfully opens a new qualifying checking and/or savings account, and completes qualifying activities. Referred clients must be new Chase customers. Earn a maximum of $500 in referral bonus per calendar year.

Other Banks to Consider
While big banks are right for some, they aren't for everyone. If you feel that you might get better service from a bank that understands your needs as an Orlando resident, then one of these local banks might be right for you.
United Community Bank
Headquartered in Greenville, SC, United Community Bank acquired Seaside National Bank & Trust in 2020, which still carried the name Seaside Bank and Trust in Orlando until 2023. At this time, it has been fully rebranded as United Community Bank.
This bank was founded over 7 decades ago, with 18 locations around the Sunshine State and more branches in AL, GA, NC, SC, and TN. They have a range of banking services including checking accounts, money market accounts, CDs, IRAs, savings accounts, tax-advantaged health savings accounts, and more.
Addition Financial
Addition Financial is a member-owned credit union that was founded in 1937 as Orange County Teachers' Federal Credit Union, and has since grown to one of the largest credit unions in Central Florida.
While they aren't a bank, they offer many of the same services, including checking and savings accounts, loans, credit cards, investing and retirement accounts, and more.
Synovus®
Synovus® is another regional bank which has 246 branches spread across AL, FL, GA, SC, and TN. It has 6 locations within 25 miles of Orlando.
Synovus® is based in Columbus, Georgia, and its presence in surrounding states can offer locals a level of convenience when they travel.
The bank offers checking and savings accounts, money market accounts, CDs, health savings accounts, and more to its customers.
How to Choose Best Bank in Orlando
To ensure you find the best fit for your financial needs, here are a few considerations:
Purpose
Is it for personal or business? Either way, choosing a bank with a range of services is a no-brainer. Identify the account types you plan to open. If you are banking for the first time, starting with a checking account is best.
Accessibility
Convenience cannot be overstated. Choose a bank with branches and fee-free ATMs close to your home or workplace. Online and mobile banking capabilities may be non-negotiables for some as well.
Monthly fees
When you think about it, who likes paying fees? Free checking is an option for several banks. Alternatively, other financial institutions offer ways to waive their account's monthly service charges.
Customer service
If you want a more personalized experience, try credit unions or regional banks. Some of them may impress you with their white-glove treatment, a rarity among big banks.
Deposit rates
You are probably wise enough to not expect so much from banks when it comes to interest rates on savings. But if it matters to you, consider banking with fintechs or digital banks known to be competitive in this area.
Bottom Line
As you can see, there is a wide range of excellent banking options for residents of the Orlando area.
For the widest range of services and most convenience, you'll probably do best with a big national bank like Chase or Bank of America.
For those who prefer something a little closer to home, a regional bank like Regions, or a credit union like Suncoast, will provide the local touch that you're looking for.
There's also a lot to be said for smaller, Florida-focused banks and credit unions, such as Cogent Bank and Addition Financial.
