People get paid with PayPal online every day. Read on to find out how it works, and how you too can make money online.

PayPal is one of the best-known services in the world for getting paid online. If you've never used it, you may be wondering how it works, and where all that money is coming from.

The truth is, there are lots of easy ways to get paid with PayPal, and this list of ideas can help you get started.

Whether you're completing surveys in your downtime, doing some freelance writing, or selling the stuff you've got lying around the house, you're bound to find something that works for you.

Take a look and see how you can start making money online.

1. Sell Your Old Books

Some books are worth keeping forever (like that Harry Potter box set that'll get passed down to your grandkids). But that doesn't mean you should hold onto every book you ever bought.

Luckily, there are sites like Bookscouter and ValoreBooks that can buy up your old books, and usually for best price.

Clean up some space on the shelf by getting rid of those dusty old tomes, get paid through PayPal, and you can use your earnings the next time you go shopping (for more books).

2. Sell Your Used DVDs

Sure, DVDs are fragile, scratch easily, tend to get lost under the couch or borrowed indefinitely. But who didn't have an enormous collection with copies of "Rush Hour" and all the "Die Hard" movies? You have to impress people somehow.

Then came streaming, and suddenly DVDs seemed as obsolete as a VHS. The good news is, there are people willing to pay you for those old DVDs, and Decluttr is one of them.

Just upload your DVDs to the app, get offers, and when you accept, they'll even send you shipping labels so that you don't have to waste any of your valuable profits on postage.

3. Save When You Shop for Groceries

Earn cash back on groceries through PayPal when you shop with Ibotta. The way it works is simple: Ibotta offers cash rebates on tons of products at your grocery store. When you shop, scan the receipt and they'll credit it to your account.

As soon as you reach the $20 minimum, you can get paid with PayPal.

Ibotta currently partners with over 300 stores, including popular ones like Walgreens, Costco, Walmart, Albertsons, and more.

Ibotta Tips: Not everything is available for cash back with Ibotta, so while you may get paid for one popular brand of dish soap, you might not for another. Check the app before you shop, and make a shopping list so that when you're in the store, you know which items you can save on, and which you won't.

4. Take Surveys for Cash

Whether you're on your phone or a computer, it's easy to start making money online with short surveys.

Some take as little as 30 seconds, others as long as an hour, but usually the compensation is aligned to the amount of time you put in. Here are some survey sites we recommend:

Swagbucks
One of the most popular survey sites out there. Answer questions and earn points on Swagbucks, which you can redeem for real cash through PayPal.

You can also get paid for playing games, watching videos, and even searching the web. Frequent users can make as much as $50-$100 a month.

Survey Junkie
Once you reach 1,000 points on their app or site, you can redeem them with PayPal.

As long as you're a U.S. resident and over 16 years old, you can get started today with Survey Junkie (Read Survey Junkie Review). It won't replace your job, but it's a nice way to earn an extra $5 a day.

InboxDollars
This popular site will pay you for taking surveys about a variety of topics, like fashion and clothing, food, and daily activities.

InboxDollars surveys can pay anywhere from $.50 to $10, though the higher paying surveys are rarer. Users report making between $25 and $30 a month.

It costs nothing to join any of these survey sites, and it's a fun way to add a little cushion to your wallet in your free time. Download their apps in the App Store and Google Play Store.

5. Become a Virtual Assistant

It used to be that the only people who needed assistants were high-powered businessmen and busy politicians. But these days, everyone from musicians to artists to restaurant owners needs to stay relevant on social media, which most of them don't have time for.

This is where you come in. Help busy people keep up with the necessary day-to-day maintenance, and you could get paid to do it.

That might mean posting on Twitter or Instagram, or managing a blog, answering emails, or even making sure their website is optimized for SEO.

6. Freelance Writing

If you've got a way with words, you don't have to have a degree in English or even any professional writing experience to get paid to write.

You can find work through sites like Upwork and Fiverr, which have thriving freelance communities, and both offer PayPal as an option for cashing out.

Get paid to write blog posts, eBooks, do copywriting, or share helpful tips, all from the comfort of your own home.

Remember that freelance sites will take a percentage of your earnings when you use them to find clients. If you can find clients independently, all that money stays with you.

7. Freelance Art and Design

Companies are always looking for artists and graphic designers who can make their vision a reality. Whether you're making logos, T-shirts, or completing a comprehensive branding project, you can get paid through PayPal.

Just like with writing, there are plenty of opportunities through freelance sites or with print-on-demand sites like Teepublic, which pay contributing artists through monthly PayPal transfers.

8. Affiliate Marketing

You might think that marketing sounds like something only a trained professional could do. But it's actually a great way for passionate amateurs to get paid to talk about things they're interested in.

It's a commission-based system, which means you earn a small percentage whenever a customer buys something through your website or blog.

Offer your unique outlook on a product or service, be honest, and build an audience. Then, certain companies will pay you for sending customers their way.

Get paid through PayPal with affiliate networks like Impact, FlexOffers, or Amazon Affiliate Marketing.

9. Rent Out a Room in Your Home

If you've got some extra space that you don't mind sharing, consider renting it out through a site like Airbnb for your chance at a little extra income.

Whether you're interested in long-term tenants or short-term travelers, renting your spare rooms can be a great way to offset daily expenses.

If you live in a desirable area, you may be able to run it like a little private "hotel"—and you might even make some friends along the way.

10. Sell Your Old Electronics

You've probably got at least one old smartphone or computer lying around your house collecting dust. Instead of letting it become a nest for spiders, take some time to clean up and earn extra money while you do it.

Apps like Decluttr will pay through PayPal for your old, unused devices, and what's more, you don't even have to pay for shipping. Newer devices will get you more, and you can recycle a ton of different tech items like old game consoles, tablets, and e-readers.

11. Shop with Rakuten

Save money easily when you shop online with Rakuten, formerly known as Ebates.

Rakuten partners with other retailers to offer great deals from 1-40% cash back to its customers, credited through PayPal.

They sell goods from over 2,000 stores, which means that whatever you're looking for, they've probably got it. And there's no reason you should pay full price.

Payouts start at a minimum of $5, and you may be able to earn a $10 bonus just for signing up and making your first purchase through Rakuten.

12. Become a Transcriptionist

Computers can do a lot of things reliably these days, but lucky for you, transcription isn't one of them. For this particular job, we still value the human touch—because accuracy is important.

With sites like TranscribeMe! and Transcribe Anywhere, you can get paid as much as $25 per audio hour for transcription services.

Keep in mind, audio hours may take longer to complete than an hour of work.

Plus, if you become certified as either a medical or legal transcriptionist, you can get paid even more.

13. Sell Products on Your Own Website

So you've always wanted to sell sneakers, but you don't have that much space, and there's no room for 300 shoeboxes in your bedroom.

But don't let that stop you. There are lots of ways to sell products on your own website, and you can get paid with PayPal doing it.

With dropshipping and fulfillment centers, you can sell physical goods without ever setting eye on them. There's no hassle of boxing, taping, or going to the post office, and no piles of inventory.

Setting up the site and finding the products is the easy part. Getting customers to buy them is where you'll have to put your wits to work.

But with a good strategy, you can build a real business selling pretty much whatever you want, right from your own home. Find a niche, lean into it, and given enough time, you can become a successful online retailer.

14. Walk Dogs and Pet-sit

If you're one of those animal lovers who would walk dogs for free, getting paid to do it is just an added bonus.

In recent years, apps like Rover and DogVacay have offered animal owners a way to ensure their furry friends are cared for in their absence. And the pay isn't too bad: $15 per hour for walking, or $40 per night to pet-sit.

When it's time to get paid, Rover lets you cash out via PayPal, which you'll get within 1 week of your walking or pet-sitting assignment.

15. Test Products

Before someone buys any product, it goes through multiple rounds of product testing—done by paid volunteers, in many cases.

Product testers are regular people paid by companies to test and share their thoughts on different products. And it's not too hard to become one.

Companies like American Consumer Opinion, UserTesting, and Vindale Research can pay you through PayPal to test all sorts of products, even as much as $75 per test.

Bottom Line

No matter what your financial situation is or how much time you have on your hands, there are dozens of ways to get paid through PayPal.

Whether you're looking for real work, a part time gig, or just to have a little fun, there's no reason why you shouldn't get paid to do it, and PayPal makes getting your money safe, secure, and easy.
