Pricing Overview

The services of Northwest Registered Agent are designed to help start, run, and grow your business. And unlike other providers, you only have to pay for services you need.

It offers five types of services:

  • Filing Services
  • Registered Agent
  • Business Compliance
  • Business Identity
  • Additional Services

Let's start with the filing services for startup entrepreneurs.

Filing Services

Cost: $39 + state fees[1] or $100 + state fees[2]

Northwest Registered Agent's filing service is its most basic package. You typically have to purchase this before adding other services to your bill.

It helps you form an LLC, corporation, or nonprofit for $39 + state fees. Northwest Registered Agent never raises the price.[3] You will only pay $100 if you want to expand an already existing business to another state. This process is typically called foreign business formation.

Northwest's filing service includes:[1]

The free services above are optional, aside from preparing and filing your business formation documents. You can use the toggle buttons to activate/deactivate each free service during registration.

What's an operating agreement?
An operating agreement is a legal document that details important rules for managing the business. It also defines the roles and responsibilities of the members or managers. In essence, it's a binding contract that helps prevent and solve any business disputes that may arise later on.

Registered Agent Services

Cost: $100[4] or $125/year[5]

Northwest's registered agent services typically cost $125/year. But this goes down to $100 if you get the service for five or more states.

This service includes:[5]

  • Same-day scans, instant notifications
  • Business address and free mail forwarding
  • Free domain, website, email, and business phone
  • Privacy by Default®

If you don't need the freebies, you can opt out through the toggle button during the registration process.

If you already have a business but just want a new registered agent, you can switch to Northwest's services at no additional cost. It will shoulder the state fees and process the paperwork for you.

Have you ever switched registered agent services, and if so, why?

What's a registered agent?
A registered agent is responsible for receiving business and legal documents on behalf of your LLC. This includes government notices, tax forms, and annual reporting forms.

Compliance Services

Cost: $25 or $100 + state fees

Northwest Registered Agent offers two types of compliance services:

  • BOI Report: $25 (one-time fee)[6]
The Beneficial Ownership Information report is submitted to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. It includes detailed information about the business' beneficial owners, including name, birth date, and address.[7]

You are considered a beneficial owner if you own 25% or more of the business or if you exercise substantial control.[7] Depending on when the business was formed, you could have as little as 30 days to submit this report.

  • Annual Report: $100 + state fees[8]
Most states require LLCs and corporations to submit an annual report. It provides updated information about your business, including a new business address, contact number, and members.

You can add these compliance services to your total bill during registration. Alternatively, log in to your Northwest Registered Agent account and purchase them a la carte.

Depending on the state where your business is formed, an annual report is also called:
  • Annual Statement
  • Statement of Information
  • Periodic Report
  • Biennial Statement
  • Decennial Report
  • Franchise Tax Report

Business Identity Services

Cost: $9+ per month[9]

Northwest's business identity services are free for 90 days. Except for the website domain name, which is free for one year.[9]

Northwest offers the following business identity services:[9]

  • Custom website domain name
  • Prebuilt customizable website and web hosting (WordPress)
  • SSL security to prove your website is secure
  • Up to 10 business email addresses
  • Internet-accessible phone line (unlimited call and text)

You can purchase each business identity service a la carte for $9 monthly. The custom website domain is free for the first year and then renews annually at a price that varies based on the domain. If you keep all of them after the free trial, you get a 20% discount on your monthly costs and your domain name's annual renewal fee.[9]

Domain Name vs. Web Hosting
A web host stores your website data and publishes it to the internet. Meanwhile, a domain name is an address for your business website. These two services typically have separate fees.

Additional Services

Cost: $15 to $499

Northwest Registered Agent offers several add-on services to help start, run, and grow your business.

Here's a complete list and why you might need each:

Trademark Service: $499 (Includes USPTO fee)[10]
A trademark protects your brand's name, logo, phrase, or design. Northwest's attorneys will review your trademark application before filing it with USPTO.

You'll also get attorney advice if your trademark is less likely to be approved. Should your trademark get rejected, Northwest's attorneys will respond with procedural office actions.

Law on Call: At least $99/hr.[11]
Law on Call is a law firm owned by Northwest. It's regulated by the Utah Supreme Court and offers instant phone access to legal advice. If you pay for trademark services, you could get a complimentary subscription or lower hourly rates.

Employer Identity Number: $50 or $200[12]
An EIN is a unique, nine-digit number assigned by the IRS. It's used to identify a business entity for tax-related purposes.

Getting an EIN online is easy, and you can even do it for free. However, if you don't have an SSN, the process takes longer (4 to 6 weeks) and is more complicated. Thus, Northwest charges $200 if this is the case.

S Corporation Election: $50[13]
An S-corp tax election can be beneficial to limited liability companies. Also called pass-through taxation, the LLC's income and losses flow through to the business owners.

Not all LLCs can be an S-corp. For a one-time fee, Northwest Registered Agent can help figure things out and process all the paperwork.

Premium Mail Forwarding: $20/month[14]
Northwest's registered agent service already includes free mail forwarding. However, that just covers digital scanning. Subscribe to premium mail forwarding if you want unlimited physical mail sent to your address.

Virtual Office Service: $29/month[15]
Northwest gives you an address in a real commercial building, unlike other virtual office services. That includes real office lease and unique suite number.

It also includes virtual phone service and weekly physical mail forwarding. That means you could save $29 a month if you were considering getting these services a la carte.

Here are the rest of Northwest Registered Agent's add-on services:[16]

  • 10 Certificates: $15
  • Overseas Shipping of Documents: $150
  • Corporate Books and Seals: $45 to $100
  • Notary Stamp: $35

Registration Process

It's very easy to subscribe to Northwest Registered Agent's services. There are no packages to choose from, so you can start the registration process immediately.

Here's a sneak peek of the registration process:

  • Choose Form a Business or Hire Registered Agent
  • Provide basic information about your business
  • Set an email address and password for your account
  • Use the toggle buttons to choose free trial and add-on services
  • Review order summary and pay

After payment, you will be logged in to your online account. Use this account to access paid services and free customizable forms, including operating agreements, corporate bylaws, and more.

You must order filing or registered agent services first to purchase most add-on services. This will serve as your starting point. From there, you can select the add-ons you want.

Unfortunately, it isn't possible to purchase the majority of Northwest's compliance, business identity, and other services without choosing a starting point.

What aspect of the Northwest Registered Agent's services impressed you the most?

Does Northwest Registered Agent offer refunds?
You might be able to request a refund for some services within 90 days of purchase. However, this is on a case-to-case basis. This might not apply to filing services since Northwest files your documents with the state within a few days.

Bottom Line

Most of Northwest Registered Agent's services can be purchased individually. You can get filing services and registered agent services a la carte, or purchase both during registration.

However, you could save more with discounts and service bundles. For example, the business identity bundle offers a 20% discount. You could also save $29 monthly if you get the virtual office service.
