Is Loom and Leaf a Good Mattress?

Loom & Leaf is one of three brands from Saatva, a popular online mattress company. While Saatva is known for their innerspring beds, the Loom & Leaf mattress is all foam.

Is it a good mattress? For the quality of materials, yes.

The Loom & Leaf definitely isn't the cheapest memory foam mattress out there. But its high-density foams give it an edge over some cheaper and flimsier beds.

The Loom & Leaf mattress features:

12-inch Thickness
Thicker mattresses offer better support and durability. The Loom & Leaf has the following layers:

  • 6" base made of high-density foam
  • 2" transition layer
  • 3" comfort layers with 4 and 5-lb memory foams and cooling pad
  • Organic cotton cover with additional foam layer

Organic Cotton Cover
The top layer is made of organic cotton and offers breathability and cushion. It's also naturally flame retardant.

Is Loom and Leaf organic?
While the cotton cover is organic, the entire mattress isn't. But it is made with eco-friendly materials.

Cooling Gel
The gel layer helps keep you cool while you sleep. Unlike regular memory foam, gel foam shouldn't retain as much heat.

Two Firmness Levels
Loom & Leaf's Relaxed Firm is a good option for most sleepers, while the Firm mattress works best for heavier back or stomach sleepers. Both will keep your spine in alignment while providing just enough cushion for the pressure points.

Loom & Leaf is marketed as an alternative to Tempur-Pedic beds. Though it's not an exact copy, it should feel good to many fans of memory foam. That being said, the Loom & Leaf isn't for everyone.

Before you make a decision, you need to know all the details. Here's what's good and bad about the Loom & Leaf mattress.

Pros and Cons

  • Firmness Options
It's always a plus when a mattress comes in multiple firmness levels. You can choose from Relaxed Firm (medium-firm) and Firm models. Go for a softer mattress if you're a side sleeper, medium-firm if you're a back sleeper, and firmer if you're a stomach sleeper.

  • High-Density Memory Foam
This is a great choice for fans of traditional memory foam. The denser foams help with mattress support and durability.

  • Free White Glove Delivery
The mattresses are shipped full size, and they set it up in your room for you. You don't have to wait for the mattress to expand like bed-in-a-box options. They also remove your old mattress.

  • No Motion Transfer
Memory foam absorbs movement. You'll be able to stay asleep when your partner moves. This makes it ideal for couples who are light sleepers.

  • 15-Year Warranty
Loom & Leaf will replace your mattress for free if it's defective within the first two years. Every year after that, they'll repair your bed for the cost of shipping. Read more about the warranty here.

  • Made in the USA
Loom & Leaf mattresses are made in 19 different plants in the U.S. using U.S.-sourced foams.

Loom & Leaf provides a 120-night trial period. That means you can try the bed out where it matters—in your home. If you aren't happy, you can return the mattress after paying a $99 transportation fee.

  • Not for Very Light or Heavy Folks
Since the Loom & Leaf is on the firmer side, it might not contour the body enough for very petite sleepers. On the other hand, very heavy sleepers might not get enough support.

  • Little Bounce
If you frequently change positions, you may feel "stuck" in the Loom & Leaf. The bounciness of an innerspring bed, such as the Saatva innerspring, may be a better fit.

  • $99 Transportation Fee
Although shipping is free, it'll cost you $99 if you want to return your mattress. The $99 transportation fee also applies to mattress repairs after the first 2 years of your warranty.

  • Sleeps Hot for Some
Even though the mattress has a cooling gel layer, it's still a memory foam mattress. You run the risk of sleeping hot, especially if you're on the heavier side. Heavy folks will sink in more and feel more insulated by the foam.

Is sagging a problem with the Loom and Leaf mattress?
A few customers have experienced some sagging in the middle of the Loom & Leaf mattress. This might be more of a problem for very heavier folks. The mattress is made of a firmer memory foam that should last longer for other body types.

Who Is Loom and Leaf Good For?

Memory foam mattresses aren't right for everyone. Some people feel "stuck" in foam that's overly soft. Loom & Leaf is made with denser 5-lb foam, which should help prevent that.

It's a good choice for:

  • Most side sleepers
  • Petite to average back and stomach sleepers
  • Couples
  • Foam lovers who sleep hot
  • People with back pain

Because it's made of memory foam, heavy stomach and back sleepers might not get enough support. An innerspring or hybrid with coils is usually a better fit for larger bodies.

Petite side sleepers would most likely benefit from a bed that's a bit softer. The Loom & Leaf's might be a bit too firm to relieve pressure on smaller frames.

Are Loom and Leaf mattresses non-toxic?
Loom & Leaf eco-friendly foam beds are free from harmful chemicals and are low on VOCs. You shouldn't have an issue with off-gassing, or chemical smells. All the foam off-gassing is done before the mattress is constructed. The mattresses are also CertiPUR-US certified for sustainability.

You can't test out a Loom & Leaf before you buy. But you can use the mattress feel breakdown below to get an idea of what to expect.

How Does the Loom and Leaf Mattress Feel?

The mattress comes in two firmness options: Relaxed Firm (medium-firm) and Firm. The Relaxed Firm model is about a 7 out of 10 in firmness. This is a bit firmer than your average medium-firm bed. The Firm is about an 8 out of 10.

After a couple seconds of lying on the mattress, you'll feel yourself sink in more. That's the classic memory foam feel that hugs your body.

Since the mattress is firmer and denser than most memory foam mattresses, it offers better support. Most side, back, and stomach sleepers should feel well-supported on this mattress. But, there is one exception.

Heavy people who weigh more than 250 lbs might sink in too much. Heavy stomach sleepers especially should opt for a mattress with coils instead.

Pressure Relief
Memory foam is great for pressure relief. The material contours the body to soften the force on your hips and shoulders. Since the Loom & Leaf is a bit firmer, lightweight sleepers might not get the best pressure relief.

If you're a petite side sleeper, try a softer mattress for more comfort.

The Loom & Leaf has a cooling gel layer that keeps you from overheating. Most sleepers should feel fine on this mattress. But if you constantly struggle with feeling sweaty in bed, that gel layer might not be enough.

For extremely hot environments, a more breathable bed with coils will keep you cooler.

Motion Transfer
Memory foam is great for keeping your partner's movement on their side of the bed. This is great for light sleepers. If your partner tosses and turns or wakes up earlier, you won't feel any motion.

Edge Support
When you sit on the edge of the bed, you'll notice some sagging under your weight. The edge support on the Loom & Leaf mattress isn't amazing, but you won't fall off either. Most sleepers shouldn't have an issue when lying down on the mattress.

Loom and Leaf Pricing

You won't pay as much for a Loom & Leaf mattress as you would for high-end mattresses. But the prices aren't the cheapest compared to other online beds. They're still a good-quality mattress with a traditional memory foam feel.

See if the Loom & Leaf fits in your budget:

All sizes are compatible with an adjustable base. You can use your own or pair it with the Lineal Adjustable Base from Saatva.

If you're looking for more budget-friendly option, there are plenty of other foam beds. Find out how some of them stack up below.

How Loom and Leaf Compares

Saatva and Loom & Leaf are owned by the same company, but that's where the similarities end.

Saatva is an innerspring mattress available in soft, medium-firm, and firm models. Saatva offers a cooler, more breathable sleeping surface. The Loom & Leaf mattress is better for pressure relief.

Nectar is a good budget memory foam mattress. It's only available in a medium firmness level.

It feels softer than Loom & Leaf, so it's better suited for petite and average weight sleepers. Both mattresses use cooling gel foam. Nectar offers a generous 365-day trial period.

Casper offers all-foam and hybrid mattresses. Both use open-cell foam for a more breathable surface.

Their all-foam models are good for petite and average sleepers. The hybrids are great for extra support. Casper also includes areas of "zoned support" for your shoulders and hips.

The Loom & Leaf mattress is a good alternative to Tempur-Pedic's memory foam beds.

Tempur-Pedic has better pressure relief and more firmness options. It also has hybrid options for better support. But you'll have to pay a lot more for these extra features.

Is Loom and Leaf good for side sleepers?
Sleeping on your side requires some firmness for proper spinal alignment and enough softness to relieve pressure. Loom & Leaf mattresses have a good combination of both. But petite sleepers might need a softer mattress for better pressure relief.

Bottom Line

If you love memory foam, but want a firmer feel, Loom & Leaf could be the perfect mattress for you. It's not your traditional bed-in-a-box, but you do order it online.

With free white glove delivery and setup, you'll get a quality memory foam bed at a fraction of the price of retail store options.
