How Many Carats is Kim's Ring

Read more about Diamonds

Kim Kardashian's ring is one of the most expensive celebrity engagement rings of all time. Find out how many carats it is, plus how much it's really worth.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West began their high-profile romance in 2012. In 2013, Kanye proposed to Kim with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring.

Three years later, Kim received a second engagement ring from Kanye—and this time, the ring was even more massive.

Learn more about Kim Kardashian's engagement rings, including their carat size, price, and style.

How Many Carats is Kim's Ring?

Both of Kim K's engagement rings from Kanye are incredibly large. The first ring was a 15-carat cushion-cut diamond. The second was a massive 20-carat emerald-cut diamond ring. Kim's second ring made the news when it was stolen in Paris along with millions of dollars' worth of other jewelry.

To put in perspective how large these rings are, the average engagement ring size in the U.S. is just 1 carat.

Kim's diamonds are flawless, which is the highest diamond clarity grade. This means they have zero flaws, even under 10x magnification. Only about 1% of diamonds fall under this category. Some jewelers go through their whole career without coming across a flawless diamond.

The diamonds are also rated D on the color-grading scale. This is super rare, and it indicates that the diamonds have no traces of color whatsoever. The stones are completely colorless.

These features make for astonishingly expensive rings. Find out what each of Kim's rings is actually worth below.

How Much Did Kim's Ring Cost?

The national average engagement ring cost is $7,750. But when you're Kimye, no expenses are spared. Kim's first ring is reported to have cost a staggering $8 million. Her second ring cost $4 million.

Although her second ring is larger, it actually costs less than her first engagement ring. This could partially be due to the fact that the second is an emerald-cut diamond. Emerald cuts are generally one of the cheapest diamond cuts.

Both rings are made with very rare diamonds and materials, which is why the rings cost so much.

Not only are the diamonds themselves rare, the bands are also top-of-the-line. The rings feature flawless, colorless diamonds set in platinum. Platinum is rarer, denser, and more expensive than gold.

What Style is Kim's Ring?

Kim's rings were both designed by Lorraine Schwartz, a celebrity jeweler who has designed rings for Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez, and more.

The first ring features a solitaire cushion-cut diamond set on a delicate pavé band. Cushion-cut diamonds are square-ish with rounded corners. The band is encrusted in tiny diamonds that give the ring even more sparkle.

Kim's second ring looks quite similar to her first ring. It features a solitaire emerald-cut diamond set on a delicate pavé band. The emerald is a step-cut diamond, which gives it those distinctive parallel facets.

Both cushion and emerald cuts are usually some of the most affordable diamond shapes. Of course, that rule goes out the window when you're dealing with diamonds this rare.

Bottom Line

Kim's two engagement rings from Kanye cost a combined $12 million. Not exactly within budget for most people.

The good news is that similar style rings can be had for much less. Solitaire pavé rings are pretty common, and they don't have to cost an arm and a leg.

Before you choose an engagement ring, it's a good idea to set a budget first. After that, you can choose the diamond and setting that you can comfortably afford.

If you like the look of Kim K's rings, you're in luck. Emerald and cushion diamonds are usually cheaper than round diamonds.
