Earn Miles on Everyday Spending with Credit Cards

There are some credit card programs that will let you transfer points to JetBlue TrueBlue. These are often your best bet for earning miles fast. Credit cards also often offer great bonuses.

Read on to see which cards will get you the most possible miles.

Chase Ultimate Rewards Credit Cards (Best Option)

JetBlue is a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner.

Here are the top Chase Ultimate Rewards credit cards that allow you to transfer points 1:1 to JetBlue.

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred

  • Chase Sapphire Reserve
    Apply for Chase Sapphire Reserve

That's $900 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Travel℠. Apply for Ink Business Preferred Credit Card

Earn 3 points per $1 on the first $150,000 spent in combined purchases on travel, shipping purchases, Internet, cable and phone services, advertising purchases made with social media sites and search engines each account anniversary year. Earn 1 point per $1 on all other purchases. There are no foreign transaction fees. There is a $95 annual fee.

How many points do you need for a free flight on JetBlue? JetBlue's award system is cost-based. So how many points needed depends on the cost of the flight. On average, we estimate each TrueBlue point to be worth about 1.4-1.5 cent each. This means 10,000 points can be used to redeem a flight that costs around $140 - $150.

JetBlue Co-Branded Credit Cards

A JetBlue credit card is the fastest way to earn miles without flying. You get a nice chunk of miles with the sign-up bonus. And plus, you earn miles for everyday purchases too.

How long does it take for JetBlue points to post? Points can take up to 14 days to post to your TrueBlue account. If you are transferring points from one of the credit card reward programs, it is faster. Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, and Citi ThankYou should all be instantaneous transfers.

American Express Credit Cards

There are several credit cards from American Express (a CreditDonkey partner) that allow you to transfer Membership Rewards points to JetBlue points.

Here are some of the cards that earn Membership Rewards.

  • American Express Gold
Apply for American Express Gold Card
American Express Gold earns 60,000 Membership Rewards® points after you spend $6,000 on eligible purchases with your new Card within the first 6 months. This card earns 4x points at restaurants, including takeout and delivery in the U.S., and 4x points at U.S. supermarkets (on up to $25,000/calendar year in purchases, then 1x). 3x points on flights booked directly with airlines or on amextravel.com. You can earn up to $10 in statement credits monthly when you pay with the American Express® Gold Card at Grubhub, The Cheesecake Factory, Goldbelly, Wine.com, Milk Bar and select Shake Shack locations. Enrollment required. There is a $250 annual fee (See Rates & Fees). Terms apply.

The transfer rate is usually 250 MR points to 200 TrueBlue miles, so you will be losing some of your AMEX points.

Sometimes, there are special promotions that allow you to transfer at a better ratio. You'll want to keep an eye out and jump on those when they pop up.

Citi Credit Cards

The Citi ThankYou Rewards program also allows you to transfer ThankYou points to TrueBlue miles. However, the transfer rate is even worse. For 1,000 ThankYou points, you only get 500 TrueBlue miles.

We'd say this isn't the best use of your ThankYou points. Again, look out for transfer promotions.

Here are the Citibank credit cards:

  • Citi Premier: travel, gas, and dining. Citi Premier earns 60,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 within the first 3 months of account opening. This card earns 3 points per $1 spent at gas stations, air travel, and hotels, 3 points per $1 spent at restaurants and supermarkets, and 1 point per $1 spent on other purchases. There is a $95 annual fee.

Travel with JetBlue and Partners

Book JetBlue Flights

JetBlue's loyalty program gives a lot of points for booking flights with them. You earn a base of 3 points per dollar spent on JetBlue flights PLUS additional bonus points when you book different fares and upgraded seating.

  • Blue Flex fare: 5 bonus points/$

It pays to be a loyal JetBlue customer! JetBlue has a special incentivized program that allows you to easily rack up bonus miles by achieving milestones such as:

  • Take 3 Bonus: Earn 5,000 bonus points when you purchase and fly 3 round-trip JetBlue flights in the calendar year.

  • Lucky 7 Bonus: Earn 7,000 bonus points when you purchase and fly 7 round-trip JetBlue flights in the calendar year.

  • Go Long Bonus: Earn 10,000 bonus points when you purchase and fly 10 one-way JetBlue flights that are 1,600 miles or more in the calendar year.

There are over 400 badges to earn, which makes booking flights even more addicting. The more badges you earn, the more bonuses you get. JetBlue even allows you to earn rewards by posting on social media.

Did you know: JetBlue allows TrueBlue Family Pooling. JetBlue allows 2 adults and 5 kids (under the age of 21) to be grouped under 1 account so you can earn and pool all of your points collectively. If you are looking for an easy way to maximize points and have family/friends who travel, this is it! Make sure everyone has an individual TrueBlue account number before signing up, as it will make things easier when you link them all together.

Fly with Partner Airlines

Did you know you can also earn TrueBlue points on JetBlue's partner airlines? Choose from the many destinations and itineraries offered by Emirates, Hawaiian Airlines, JetSuiteX, Silver Airways, Singapore Airlines, and South African Airlines. Be sure to check each airline's terms before booking.

JetBlue Vacations

JetBlue Vacations offers easy, 1-click vacation packages to destinations such as the Caribbean and Mexico. Most of the packages are hotel + air and heavily discounted. Plus, you get the sweet payout of 6 points per dollar spent.

Tip: JetBlue Vacations have a lowest price guarantee. If you find a lower price for the exact same vacation package within 48 hours of purchase, JetBlue will refund the price difference. Everything must be the same - dates, flights, hotel, hotel room category, number of travelers, etc.

Online Shopping

This is one of the easiest way to earn points without flying.

JetBlue's online shopping portal - Shop True - lets you earn bonus miles for online purchases. Just use the portal to search and buy items from almost 600 stores. You'll earn bonus miles for every dollar spent.

The stores offer anywhere from .5 to 10+ points for every dollar spent. Fixed earn rate can go up to 1,875 points.

Tip: You'll want to pay attention to Bonus Offers, which list time-sensitive deals, as well as Coupons. Some companies are very particular with codes that need to be applied at checkout to get promotional discounts.

Eat Out with TrueBlue Dining

The TrueBlue Dining program is a must for those who love to eat out! Join for free and register your credit cards. Then eat at a participating restaurant and pay with the card to receive bonus miles. There are over 10,000 participating restaurants throughout the US.

You earn 1 TrueBlue point per $1 spent. Mosaic elite status members earn 2 points per $1 spent.

To get even more rewards, link a travel rewards card or a card with bonus rewards for dining out.

Save with Groupon

We all love looking for deals on Groupon. TrueBlue members can earn:

  • 5 points per dollar on Local Deals
  • 4 points per dollar on Getaways
  • 3 points per dollar on Goods

New users can get an extra 1,000 points when purchasing a Local offer over $30.

Saving money plus earning miles - this is definitely a win-win.

Book with Hotel Partners

You can also earn points for qualifying stays at participating hotels chains, including:

  • IHG: Earn TrueBlue points when you register with IHG Rewards Club® and stay at one of over 4,600 IHG properties worldwide. Your earnings depend on which brand you book with. They vary from 1 point per dollar, 2 points per dollar, or 500 points per qualifying stay.

  • Marriott: You can earn bonus points by staying at Marriott properties located worldwide, including JW Marriott, Edition, Autograph Collection Hotels and the rest of their collection. Simply register for a new account or link your TrueBlue number to your existing one. Your earnings vary by brand from 1 to 2 points per dollar spent.

Car Rentals & Ground Transportation

  • Rent with Budget, Payless, & Avis. These car rental partners let you earn 100 points per day of rental (200 points per day if you have Mosaic status). Plus, you get massive discounts that cannot be found elsewhere.

  • Airport rides with Lyft. You can earn 30 TrueBlue Points for every ride to/from the airport. New Lyft users get an additional bonus of 750 TrueBlue Points or $15 off just for signing up and taking your first Lyft Classic, Plus or Premier ride. It's a win-win if you take lots of business trips.

Other Ways to Earn TrueBlue Points

  • 1800Flowers.com. Surprise a loved one with flowers and earn 20 points per dollar at the same time. You must use promo code TB20.

  • Amazon. Shop on Amazon.com during your next JetBlue flight to earn 3 TrueBlue points per eligible $1 spent. You must make your purchase via JetBlue's Fly-Fi® internet only.

  • SoFi. Why not refinance your student loans with SoFi? SoFi offers highly competitive rates and the chance to rack up to 50,000 points when you refinance as a TrueBlue member.

  • Points for Surveys. Here is an absolutely free way to earn points! You get 400 points just for joining and completing 1 survey. You earn more points for every additional survey completed, and they are deposited directly into your TrueBlue account.

Bottom Line

Overall, there is immense value in JetBlue's TrueBlue program (ranked 3rd best airline rewards program by U.S. News). Check the website from time to time and stay up to date with emails from JetBlue. JetBlue may not have as many airline partners as other airlines, but it's easy to earn and use miles. TrueBlue miles have good value, never expire, and there are no blackout dates when booking reward flights.
