AMC on DISH channel 131 offers edge of your seat programming. Read on to learn why we like AMC and how to get the best DISH promotion.

From internationally renowned blockbusters to gripping, edge of your seat programming, AMC is a must-have for everyone (OK, maybe not the little ones). If you’re in the mood to watch some TV, but you’re not feeling pulled towards news or sports, then AMC should definitely be on your shortlist.

What Channel Is AMC on DISH Network?

If you’re looking for AMC, commit channel 131 to memory. Shows like The Walking Dead, Better Call Saul, Comic Book Men, Into the Badlands, Fear the Walking Dead, Human, Preacher, and Turn are the shows your coworkers are talking about in the breakroom, and for good reason. They’re the best written, best produced, best acted shows on TV. Overstatement? Not really.

Sure, there’s competition elsewhere, there always is, but AMC has maneuvered itself into a solidly earned reputation as one of the best networks for original, engaging programming.

Who Is AMC Good for in Your Household?

Though AMC generally targets 18-49-year-old viewers, just about anyone can enjoy it. Yes, there’s gore and foul language in a good handful of its shows, which may or may not appeal to you, but those shows typically only air in the late evenings. Before then, they play many movies that a lot of people under your roof will probably enjoy. Moreover, it only plays A-rated movies, so you’re unlikely to ever be bored.

It’s not uncommon to see top movies like The Dark Knight, Gladiator, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Rambo, Rocky, Ender’s Game, Saving Private Ryan, Inside Man, and The Departed playing.

Plus, during holidays, expect them to play plenty of seasonally-themed movies to get you ready. For example, leading up to Halloween, you’ll see lots of spooky, scary, funny, or somewhere in between movies in rotation (such as Aliens, Halloween, or Ghostbusters), and during the Christmas season, expect to see classics like Home Alone and Scrooged to put you right into the Christmas spirit.

Reasons to Get AMC

  1. Award winning television. AMC regularly produces shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead. Unlike other channels that keep pumping out shows year after year because they have high ratings, AMC lets shows finish when they’re ready to be done. Plots don’t get needlessly drawn out only to be hastily resolved as soon as viewers start declining. The stories are told the way they need to be told. The result is excellent storytelling. If your favorite show on AMC runs its course after four or five seasons, don’t despair. You can be sure another one you’ll love is coming down the pipeline soon.

  2. Large movie rotation. The selection is too long to even list, plus it’s constantly rotating. AMC has a lot of movies; after all, it’s not called American Movie Classics for nothing! So get rid of your Netflix account and tune in to AMC. They have more movies than you can shake your fist at, with each and every one a critically acclaimed crowd pleaser.

Reasons to Watch Something Else

  1. Action and adventure are not your thing. A good portion of its movies and TV shows seems to be geared towards people who like adventure and intrigue. If that’s not your cup of tea and you enjoy movies with a lighter tone and softer pace, AMC may not give you what you’re looking for.

  2. TV shows have gotten a little gory. Even people who enjoy a little bit of gore in their TV shows think that shows like The Walking Dead have gotten to be a little too gory. If you have a weak stomach, or get nightmares easily, HGTV or the Hallmark Channel are probably better suited for you.

Other Similar Channels

  • A&E: Producing original biographies, mysteries, and specials, A&E is a great channel to have for your inner thinker/Sherlock Holmes. A&E is available on all DISH America’s Top packages.

Bottom Line

If you’re old enough to drive and enjoy top-tiered original programming, AMC will be one of your favorite channels. And if you like blockbuster titles with equal doses of heart and action, then AMC’s movie lineups will keep you glued to your sofa. Still on the fence about getting a DISH cable package? Don’t be. It’s greener on the other side, we promise. We’re not offering Kool Aid, just good old-fashioned entertainment.
