Open your TD Bank account with ease. All details in this comprehensive guide. Don't miss the bonus.

TD Bank, one of the largest banks in the U.S., has a nearly 170-year history. Best known for its extended hours and superior customer service, they offer multiple types of personal bank accounts, loans, and other financing.

How to open a TD Bank account

You can open an account online or in person at a TD Bank location. You will need your:

  • Driver's license/state ID
  • Social Security number
  • Personal/contact info (date of birth, address, phone number, and email)
  • Money for an opening deposit (cash, debit card number, or routing and account numbers for another account)

Before you fill out the application, you'll need to decide what type of account you want to open. If you're not sure which account is best for your needs, TD Bank's account selector tool can guide you in the right direction. Locate this tool at the bottom of the checking or savings account webpage, answer a few questions, and receive your personal account recommendation.

Read on to see all the individual details about each type of account.

Is TD Bank safe?
TD Bank is FDIC-insured, meaning that your funds are insured up to $250,000 if the bank ever fails.

TD Bank also uses advanced encryption and two-step verification, which are security measures used by most big banks.

Types of Accounts

TD Bank offers four types of checking accounts and three types of savings accounts, all of which can be mixed and matched or used individually.

All checking accounts charge monthly maintenance fees, but most of those fees can be waived by maintaining a minimum balance or making monthly deposits. The only account that does not offer the ability to waive the fee is the TD Simple Checking account, but it also does not require a minimum daily balance.
