Miles by Discover Review

Read more about Miles by Discover Card

Miles by Discover gives extensive travelers a fantastic opportunity to earn travel rewards for regular travel purchases. The Miles Card carries a 0% Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on balance transfers for one year and also for purchases for six months. The APR becomes variable after those dates, so be sure to check Discover’s website (www.discovercard.com) for credit levels. The card has no annual fee but does charge a 3% fee to transfer balances. If you need to lower your interest rate through a transfer, the fee is worth paying.

Miles rewards work well for business and pleasure travelers. When you use your rewards, there are no restrictions and no blackout dates for your travel, which is a great benefit. When you book travel through airlines, cruise lines, hotels, or car rentals, you’ll receive travel credits on your Miles Card. You can book travel through the line itself or through an agent or online travel service. You’ll receive double miles for your first $3,000 in travel or restaurant charges within the first year, as well as 1000 extra miles for each month in which you make purchases with the card.

The Miles reward program is unlimited. For every 5000 miles you earn, you’ll receive a $50 travel credit on your card, or you can elect to receive a $25 cash back reward. Once you’ve earned 1000 miles, you can begin redeeming for gift cards, as well. If you make purchases through the “Shop Discover” online merchants, you can double your miles with those charges.

Since the Miles card is designed for travelers, Discover’s traveler benefits are a big advantage. Cardholders have access to the Global Traveler’s Hotline, which provides medical or legal assistance for both domestic and international travelers. If you purchase travel tickets using your card, you’re automatically enrolled in a $500,000 accident insurance plan. Also, if you rent a car using the card you’ll get a $25,000 insurance policy for the rental period. If your luggage is lost, Discover will help you track it down and if you lose any travel documents, the card entitles you to have the documents replaced from anywhere in the world.

Travelers are very aware of security when it comes to credit cards, so the Miles card offers zero liability for fraudulent charges. In addition, you’ll receive early warning alerts when transactions occur that are outside of your normal geographic location and spending habits. If you do have a problem with fraud, you can contact a live representative 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As a cardholder, you’ll also enjoy online access to check balances and transactions, as well as email payment reminders to avoid late fees while you’re on the road. Finally, you also have access to Discover EDGE, which is an online financial education site exclusively for cardholders.

The Discover Miles Card is the perfect companion for business and pleasure travelers. You’ll earn miles and travel credits for travel related purchases and can turn those purchases into more travel.
