23 Tips and Tricks to Save Money at Bath and Body Works

Walking into a Bath & Body Works store is a sensory smorgasbord for your eyes and nose. From the eye-poppingly vibrant displays to the mix of floral, fruity, and spicy scents that fill the air, there's something to see and smell everywhere you turn. Men and women alike enjoy the huge variety of products, including shower gels, lotions, deodorant, candles, and hand soap.

Compared to drugstores and big-box retailers like Wal-Mart, Bath & Body Works tends to sit a little higher on the pricing scale but it's a trade-off when you consider the quality of their products.

If concerns about cost keep you from indulging in your favorite scents on a regular basis, CreditDonkey has 23 tips to make your next shopping excursion a more budget-friendly trip.

PLAN YOUR TRIP

1. Mark your calendar
Twice a year, Bath & Body Works hosts its Semi-Annual Sale event, where you'll find many items discounted up to 75% off. These promotions usually run from late December through mid-January, and again starting in early June.

2. Add your name to the email list
Bath & Body Works regularly sends out email newsletters that include information on sales, discounts, and upcoming events. It takes only a minute to register, and it's an easy way to stay in the loop and nab a coupon or two along the way. Once you get on the list, try to break the habit of browsing in the store every time you go to the mall — and wait until discount time.

3. Register for mobile alerts
If you're worried about deals getting lost in your spam folder, you can always sign up to get alerts right on your phone. There's no cost to enroll and you can stop receiving alerts at any time.

4. Snag samples of your favorite scents
Sample sizes are great if you need something to throw in your travel bag or as stocking stuffers, but they sometimes come with a big price. If you're willing to do a little detective work, you can usually find Bath & Body Works samples on shopping and freebie sites.

5. Look for preview freebies on Facebook
If you've already liked Bath & Body Works on Facebook, you know it's a great place to get the inside scoop on sales, but you can also get some freebies if you're paying attention. Any time a new scent makes its debut, you'll see an offer for a free trial size that can be redeemed online or in the store. You'll have to act fast, though, since it's typically good for only 24 hours.

6. Earn gift cards while you shop elsewhere
If you do most of your shopping online, Swag Bucks is a fairly simple way to earn some bonuses every time you buy. Creating an account is free and you can earn bucks just for shopping, surfing the web, watching videos, taking surveys, or referring friends. Currently, Swag Bucks users can redeem 2,500 points for a $25 Bath and Body Works gift card or 5,000 points for a $50 card.

7. Get offers in the mail
In addition to email and mobile offers, you can also sign up to receive coupons in your mailbox. Not only can you save money off your next purchase, you'll also receive mailers with coupons good for free trial sizes when new products launch.

8. Get cash back for using coupons
If you regularly use coupon websites to find promo codes for your purchases, check out online shopping portals to see if you can earn points or miles for your purchases.

MAKE THE MOST OF COUPONS AND DEALS

9. Stock up on your favorites
Every few months, Bath & Body Works runs a Buy One, Get One promotion, and it's not something you can afford to miss. Over the 2014 holiday season, for instance, shoppers could mix and match Signature Collection products as part of a Buy 3, Get 3 free deal.

10. Snag more for less on seasonal promotions
The holidays are one of the best times to shop at Bath & Body Works because you can often get pricey gifts for less. In December 2014, for example, shoppers could score the Holiday Traditions bucket valued at $79 for just $25 with a $30 purchase. In the bucket was a mix of hand soaps, lotions, and mini candles in a decorative holder.

11. Pair coupons with BOGO deals
If you've got a coupon or promo code, store policy allows you to combine it with BOGO sales for added savings. Just make sure you read the fine print in case there are exclusions or a minimum amount you have to spend to use it.

12. Double coupon savings on Black Friday
While Bath and Body Works normally doesn't allow you to use multiple coupons in one transaction, there's an exception if you're shopping on Black Friday. You can redeem an unlimited number of coupons as long as you qualify for the required purchase amount on each offer.

13. Opt for a gift set
Bath & Body Works offers a number of prepackaged gifts for the shopper who's looking to save time and money. When you buy items together in a set, you can shave anywhere from $7 to $20 off what it would cost you to purchase them separately. Just be sure you're doing this because you need or really want the items — not just for the thrill of getting a deal.

14. Ask for free gift wrap
When you're giving a gift, you want the outside to reflect the goodies that are inside. Bath & Body Works sells a number of DIY gift set kits so you can fancy things up on your own. If you don't want to spring for the extras, you can always go the simple route and ask for clear cello wrap, which is free with every purchase.

15. Get a free gift
One of the most popular promotions among shoppers is the one that involves a free gift on in-store purchases. Typically, you can spend as little as $10 to earn something extra.

16. Make nice with the cashier
Finding out that your coupon has expired can put a snag in your shopping plans, but luckily, Bath and Body Works shoppers have some leeway in how they're applied. If you've got a coupon that's within three days of the expiration date, the store will still honor it at the checkout.

17. Be a guest at in-store events
If you've joined the email list, you should receive notifications any time a store event or party is coming up, and you should consider going if you can fit it into your schedule. It's a great opportunity to try out the latest products and to pick up a freebie or two without needing a coupon.

18. Check out online exclusives
While certain sales run storewide, others are reserved specifically for online shoppers. The next time you're browsing the Bath & Body Works website, be sure to visit the Online Exclusives section to see what kind of deals are available.

19. Track down free shipping codes
Shipping for items purchased online starts at $5.99, but you may be able to get your order delivered for free. Look for free shipping promo codes on CreditDonkey to see if there is a current one.

AFTER YOUR PURCHASE

20. Make sure you got the best price possible
Since sales can change from one week to the next, it pays to keep an eye on prices. Any time you buy something in a Bath & Body Works store or online and the price goes down after you make your purchase, you have 14 days to ask for a price adjustment as long as you still have your receipt.

21. Express your opinions
If you had a great experience with your recent purchase, you'll want to make sure you share it with Bath & Body Works. The next time you're in the store, check the bottom of your receipt to see if you've been selected for a survey. If so, you can complete it online to earn $10 off your next purchase of $30 or more.

22. Don't be afraid to ask for your money back
Sometimes a scent smells great in the store but once you get it home and wear it for a little while, you find that it doesn't quite work. Normally, when you open a product, it's considered nonreturnable, but Bath & Body Works' 100% Satisfaction Guarantee allows you to return the unused portion for a refund within 14 days (if you have your receipt).

23. Share the love with friends and family
Every so often, Bath & Body Works holds a giveaway, and sharing the details through your social media accounts is an easy way to get discounts. Over the 2014 holiday season, for example, participants in the Share the Perfect Christmas giveaway could enter to win a $100 gift card. Shoppers could also share the entry link to the giveaway with up to 25 people; for each person who registered, they received a coupon towards a future purchase. Even if they lost out on the $100 gift card, it was still a win-win.
