Planning for retirement is difficult. How can you predict which investments will rise over 20 to 30 years?

Well, unfortunately, you can't.

But you can better protect yourself. Most investors would say the answer is to diversify your portfolio.

The stock market has consistently trended upward. But it also had some peaks and valleys.

That's why many investors look to gold. When the stock market is down, gold is often up. And that's where Regal Assets can help.

Regal Assets offers retirement accounts in precious metals.

But are they right for you? What can you invest in? And what are the fees?

In our in-depth Regal Assets review, you'll learn everything you need to know.

What is Regal Assets?

Regal Assets is an IRA provider dealing in precious metals like gold, silver, platinum, and palladium.

They're based in Beverly Hills, California, and were founded by Tyler Gallagher in 2009. In addition to their corporate headquarters, they also have offices in Toronto, London, and Dubai.

Their primary offering is the Regal IRA.

To start, you would invest a minimum of $15,000 for an IRA. This is lower than some of their competitors. Augusta Precious Metals, another popular gold IRA provider that is covered below, requires a $50,000 minimum.

Want another way to diversify your portfolio? Cryptocurrency is still a highly speculative asset, but there's no denying it's one of the biggest investment opportunities of the century. Now there are reputable crypto IRA providers. and the minimum investments are lower than with Gold IRAs.

Regal will pay your initial setup fees. But there are fees to purchase gold and annual fees that align with their competitors.

Regal Assets can store your physical gold in Dubai, where they have an office. Storing gold in Dubai has some benefits because it's a tax-free country with one of the largest vaults in the Almas Tower.

They are also partnered with Brink's, a worldwide depository that can store your gold. Brink's have vaults in the USA, and you can schedule a visit to actually see the gold you purchased.

Regal Assets Features

  • No setup fees
  • No fees for IRA rollovers
  • Low transaction fees
  • Also offers crypto IRA
  • Buying process inconvenient
  • Pricing not transparent on website
  • Not BBB accredited

Now that you have a general idea of what Regal Assets is, let's take a closer look at their offerings, investments, and fees.

Regal IRA

The primary offering from Regal Assets is their Regal IRA, a self-directed individual retirement account that allows for investment in both physical and digital coins. Compared to many of its competitors among gold IRA providers, the Regal IRA offers a unique degree of diversification.

While some Gold IRA providers limit their investors to buying gold and silver, with the Regal IRA, you get access to:

  • Gold
  • Silver
  • Platinum
  • Palladium

Gold IRAs are subject to the regulations imposed by the IRS regarding what coins and bullion can be stored in them, and Regal provides a list of what you can hold.

They include but aren't limited to:

  • Gold, Silver, and Platinum American Eagle Coins
  • Gold Australian Kangaroos
  • Silver Australian Kookaburra Coins
  • Gold and Silver Austrian Philharmonics
  • Gold, Silver, and Platinum Canadian Maple Leaf Coins

They also include bars and rounds of each metal, as long as they're produced by manufacturers accredited by Nymex/Comex, LME, LBMA, NYSE/Liffe/CBOT, and ISE-900 or a national mint.

It's possible to open a Regal IRA directly, roll over, or transfer from an existing IRA or another retirement account, such as a 401(k), SEP, TSP, or 403(b). If you choose to open an account, the Regal team will assist you with getting your account funded.

The minimum investment with a Regal IRA is $15,000, and accounts are insured by Lloyd's of London for up to $2 million.

Regal Assets Packages

In addition to the Regal IRA, Regal Assets also carries several prepared "packages" designed to provide quick and easy access to various investments.

These packages and portfolios range in price from $5,000 to $250,000, and include precious metals reserves, or a combination of metals and crypto.

  • Merchant Package: a $5,000 reserve of gold and silver designed for easy liquidation in times of need

  • Knighthood Package: a larger reserve of $10,000 worth of gold and silver, designed to support a family for several months

  • Legacy Portfolio: a $25,000 portfolio made up of metals and cryptos that have an opportunity for immediate profit potential

  • Kingship Portfolio: a $50,000 portfolio designed to diversify a percentage of your portfolio into metals and cryptos

  • Dynasty Portfolio: a $100,000 portfolio made up of metals and cryptos, designed to support an individual's retirement plan

  • Coronation Portfolio: a $250,000 portfolio made up of metals and cryptos, designed for institutional investors or high-net-worth individuals

Fees to Look Out for

When considering opening crypto or precious metals IRAs, it's important to consider the fees. Let's look at the fees for their Regal IRA.

There are no initial set-up fees, but the other fees charged are as follows.

Transaction Fee: 1%
Annual Storage Fee: 1%
Annual Administration Fee: $100
Annual Precious Metals Storage Fee: $150[1]

Minimum IRA Investment: $15,000

They don't charge any fees on sales of assets in the Regal IRA account.

The annual storage fee covers secure storage in Brinks Depository in Salt Lake City.

Regal Assets vs Competitors

Now that we know all there is to know about Regal Assets, let's take a look at how they compare to some of their most popular competitors.

Regal Assets vs Augusta Precious Metals
Augusta Precious Metals is a leading name in precious metals IRAs. Founded around the same time as Regal Assets, Augusta only offers gold and silver, so if you're interested in other precious metals, Regal is a clear choice.

Augusta also has a much higher minimum investment at $50,000,[2] compared to Regal's $15,000. But Augusta does have a strong reputation for customer service and a helpful buyback program.

If you're looking for a dedicated gold and silver IRA provider, then Augusta may be right for you.

Regal Assets vs Patriot Gold Group
Patriot Gold Group offers the same range of precious metals that Regal Assets does (gold, silver, platinum, and palladium).

Patriot has a minimum investment requirement of $25,000.

But if you have $100,000 or more to invest, you may want to consider Patriot Gold Group. You'd qualify for their No Fee for Life IRA, which can save you a lot on fees over the course of the account.

Bottom Line

Regal Assets stands out among other precious metals IRAs with its lower minimum investment requirement of $15,000. It also has a range of precious metals that you can buy directly and for reasonable fees.

They offer comparable services to many similar IRA providers. Those looking for quick and simple precious metals options may also be interested in their prepared packages and portfolios.
