In the old days, you'd have to code this yourself. These days, there are tools, such as LeadPages, that let you build your own pages in a matter of seconds. This web tool helps you make your own landing pages and pop-ups in minutes. It can also track leads and conversions.

But, there are some drawbacks.

What Is LeadPages?

To put it simply, LeadPages is a landing page builder. It provides templates for landing pages, pop-ups, and lead magnets. It allows you to easily build one even if you're not a coding pro. The main purpose is to collect email addresses so you can build a mailing list.

However, LeadPages is NOT an email marketing tool, nor does it come with some of the advanced features you'll find in other CRO platforms.

Overall, LeadPages is a good tool for bloggers, small business owners, and entrepreneurs looking to grow their audience.

Why We Like It (Pros)

  • It's always mobile-responsive: All templates are built to be mobile-responsive. No need to worry about configuring separate landing pages to accommodate web and mobile alike.

  • Very user-friendly: The main selling point of LeadPages is its ease of use. You can use the tool's drag-and-drop editor and whip up a decent-looking form within a few minutes. You don't need any design skills or coding knowledge.

  • Tons of templates: According to LeadPages, 38% of people won't engage with your website if it's ugly. LeadPages offers 160+ templates that are already designed for high engagement and conversions.

    You can sort through the templates by conversion rate, industry, or type of campaign. You'll see choices based on what's best for your needs. For example, you can create an exit pop-up with a discount promotion, or a signup sheet for yoga classes.

  • Create Facebook and Instagram ads: The Facebook Ad Builder can pull content from your website and instantly create Facebook ads. You can customize the text and budget. To run it on Instagram as well, just simply select the option to "run promotion on Instagram."

    Facebook Pixel is instantly installed, so you can track how well your ad does.

  • Tracks ROI: For every campaign you run with LeadPages, you'll get detailed analytics. So you can learn which pages worked and learn from those wins—or, do better next time.

    Additionally, the Page Tracking tab allows you to customize your page's Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel. This function allows you to see which pages generated the most leads (and which ones fell flat).

  • A/B testing (Pro+ Only): Not sure which version of the landing page you should use? Want to test out two different calls-to-action? Try them both. Test different versions side by side and see which one works best.

  • Integrate with other tools: LeadPages currently works with 40 tools and platforms, such as MailChimp, WordPress, Wix, Shopify, PayPal, LiveChat, etc. It's easy to connect your accounts.

  • Deliver lead magnets: You can also use the tool to send lead magnets (after visitors fill out a web form). A lead magnet could be something like an e-book or a free resource. But you're only able to send resources to new opt-ins, not existing subscribers.

    For more functionality, you'll need to use a third-party email service like MailChimp. This will allow for more customizations as well as the ability to send magnets to your mailing list—not just new opt-ins.

Why You Might Look Elsewhere

  • Design isn't exactly cutting edge: Many of the free templates look pretty old. Honestly, this makes a decent case for upgrading to the paid program, since it comes with better templates. One of the most frequent complaints about LeadPages is, well… it always looks like LeadPages.

    And customization is extremely limited. For example, you can't move design elements around. Essentially, you're changing the skin, with no ability to reset the bones.

  • You need third-party integrations: LeadPages is limited in its scope. The tool is excellent for creating landing pages and helping collect emails via signups. But the lead magnet delivery system isn't great—it's not customizable, and you can't send emails to existing subscribers.

    If you want a more comprehensive marketing solution, you'll have to integrate with various tools. That means you'll need to pay for multiple monthly subscriptions.

  • Limited reporting features: LeadPages mentions that they've made the in-app analytics easy to understand. Unfortunately, that means that the reports lack some granularity.

  • Might be a little too simple: LeadPages' drag-and-drop page editor is very straightforward. While that's good for beginners, it might be a little too basic for pro marketers. The tool lacks the ability to customize templates or create your own designs.

Pricing Breakdown:

Here's a look at the pricing structure. You can choose either month-to-month, annual, or 2-year subscription. The price will be lower with a longer subscription.

The prices below reflect the monthly price, when billed annually.

  • Standard, $25 per month: Best for small businesses and startups, this plan comes with unlimited mobile-responsive pages, traffic and leads.

    You'll also receive free hosting on the secure custom subdomain and gain access to the Facebook Ad Builder and over 160 free templates. LeadPages also provides weekly coaching calls to help you master the lead generation process.

  • Pro, $48 per month: The pro package is geared toward growing businesses. You'll get a few extras, such as unlimited split testing, one-click signup links, and 10 SMS campaigns.

  • Advanced, $199 per month: Upgrade to the Advanced package and you'll get additional integrations. You can now connect your account to Salesforce, HubSpot, and Marketo. Additionally, you now have 50 extra SMS campaigns and five free subaccounts (perfect for companies that create landing pages for clients).

Low Down on the Free Trial

The tool used to have a free version, but not anymore. You can, however, get a free 14-day trial for any of the plans.

You'll have to enter your credit card information right off the bat. So you'll need to remember to cancel your account if you decide it's not right for you.

You'll need to choose which version (Standard, Pro, or Advanced) you want to try. It's probably smart to start with Advanced and make a note of the features most important to you. But remember to set a cancel date for the trial. Otherwise, you're looking at a significant bill two weeks down the line.

Support

LeadPages provides multiple ways to get in touch. While the phone number is not displayed outright, you can click on the support tab to learn more. Chat and phone service are available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time, Monday through Friday.

The site does a good job of setting consumers up for success. For example, the blog covers everything from how to create a landing page to getting started with Facebook and Instagram ads. There are also tutorials, online courses, and frequent webinars.

All customers can join weekly Q&A live group coaching sessions, which can help bring novice marketers up to speed.

How Does LeadPages Stack Up Against the Competition?

LeadPages vs. ClickFunnels:
LeadPages is often compared to another tool, ClickFunnels. ClickFunnels allows you to build a complete sales funnel and landing pages that capture leads at each phase in the buying cycle.

Honestly, both tools are effective at building landing pages that convert. However, there are some clear differences at their core.

ClickFunnels offers sales funnel analytics and the ability to upsell visitors. Other benefits include an autoresponder and an affiliate management tool. Overall, ClickFunnels brings more functionality to the table—especially if you're hoping to drive sales.

LeadPages does not include affiliate management or an autoresponder, but you can add integrations into the mix (like MailChimp, AWeber, ActiveCampaign, and GetResponse).

LeadPages vs. Unbounce:
Unbounce is a bit more expensive than LeadPages. The Essential Plan starts at $79/month, while the Premium is $159. Unbounce also comes with a drag-and-drop builder and the ability to create landing pages. But it's more flexible than LeadPages and comes with a few more features.

You can create pop-up templates triggered by specific actions, customize templates, and create downloadable content.

Unbounce is less user-friendly than LeadPages, but it's a tool that brings more to the table. It has more advanced analytics and more flexibility.

LeadPages vs. Instapage:
Instapage is also billed as a landing page builder, with analytics and optimization included in the mix. The landing page builder is a bit more sophisticated. With Instapage, you can build your own pages from scratch. Or simply choose from a selection of hundreds of templates.

Instapage is also more versatile than LeadPages. You have the option to edit multiple landing pages from several different websites in one central location.

That said, LeadPages is considerably cheaper. Instapage starts at $69/month for a version that leaves out the good stuff. If you want A/B testing, heat maps and analytics, you'll need to shell out $99/month.

Bottom Line

Ultimately, LeadPages is one of the most popular builders on the market. The tool is affordable, super easy to use, and comes with the basic analytics and optimization options needed to boost conversions.

However, there are some key features missing. The tool is primarily used for collecting emails. You'll need to upgrade to the Pro plan to take payments, making it difficult to use LeadPages for different goals.

One downside is that there's not much you can do to customize it. You're pretty much limited to just changing up the text and adding your own images. Instapage and Unbounce both bring more customization to the table and a better design aesthetic.

That said, the ability to add landing pages to Facebook promises to add a ton of value to your marketing funnel. Add in some decent copywriting skills, LeadPages is bound to help you get some leads.
