Joe Rogan's Net Worth: $200 million in 2021

Joe Rogan is a man of many hats. He's a UFC commentator, martial artist, comedian, TV and movie star. And of course, he hosts one of the most widely listened-to podcasts in the world.

He has never publicly disclosed his finances. But thanks to the success of the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, he may earn much as $285M a year from his podcast alone.

Add in his work with the UFC, his comedy, and various other pursuits, and you've got a recipe for incredible financial success.

Who is Joe Rogan?

Born in Newark, New Jersey to Italian and Irish parents, he moved several times in his childhood. First to San Francisco, California, then Gainesville, Florida, and finally to Newton Upper Falls, Massachusetts.

As an adult, he's lived in Boston, New York, Colorado, and Los Angeles. In 2020, he and his wife and two daughters moved to Austin, Texas.

His storied career includes hosting the TV game show "Fear Factor", which many people know him for. He's also hosted the UFC for nearly two decades, performed comedy live in sold-out stadiums, and a variety of other roles.

Let's take a look at Joe Rogan's net worth in detail.

The Joe Rogan Experience

If you've listened to the Joe Rogan Experience, you'll know that Joe Rogan's interests are many and varied. His listeners admire his ability to hold a conversation with just about anyone, on just about any topic.

The Joe Rogan Experience originally started on YouTube and now streams on various podcast platforms. Average episodes of the Joe Rogan Experience frequently go on for two or three hours.

Guests have included Tesla CEO Elon Musk, astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, mixed martial artist Georges St-Pierre and even movie stars like Robert Downey Jr. Their discussions span a wide range of topics, from hat size to the origins of the universe.

Many attribute the success of JRE, which debuted in 2009, to its variety and length, as well as Joe Rogan's interviewing skills.

How does Joe Rogan make money from his podcast?
Well, the simple answer is ads. Through partnerships with various advertisers, Joe can generate income from his viewers and listeners. Here's how his earnings stack up:

  • YouTube: According to his YouTube stats, the Joe Rogan Experience has nearly 1.5 billion views (at the time of writing), and his clips channel has an additional 4.3 billion views.

Once YouTube creators reach a certain threshold (that Joe Rogan passed a very long time ago), they can earn somewhere between $3 and $5 per 1,000 views on their videos.

That means, between 2009 and 2021, the Joe Rogan Experience should have earned Joe Rogan between $17.4M and $29.1M in ad revenue. On YouTube.

  • Podcast Platforms: Other platforms also run ads. Joe stated in an episode of Aubrey Marcus' show in 2019 that JRE had an average of 190 million downloads per month.

According to WordStream, the average rates for podcast ads per 1,000 listeners (CPM) are as follows:

    • $15 for a 10-second ad
    • $18 for a 30-second ad
    • $25 for a 60-second ad

Some ads featured in an episode of the JRE can run up to 8 minutes long. Of course, some of those ads are for companies Joe Rogan has a stake in, like Onnit, so the rates might be different there.

If he ran 3-5 60-second ads per show, hed earn between $14.25M and $23.75M per month from ads on his podcast. Multiply that by 12, and you've got between $171M and $285M from his podcast in 2019.

While we can't extrapolate from those numbers all the way back to 2009 when the podcast started, these graphs from Trackalytics show consistent growth over time, tapering back to less astronomical numbers around 2016.

  • Spotify: In May of 2020, Joe Rogan announced that he would be signing an exclusive deal with Spotify.

While he never personally disclosed the details of the arrangement, an article in the Wall Street Journal said it could be worth $100 million.

UFC

Joe Rogan has a long history with martial arts, dating back to a childhood pursuit of Tae Kwon Do that continued well into adulthood.

He has black belts in both Tae Kwon Do and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He competed as a martial artist and even briefly worked as a martial arts instructor in his younger days, and still trains Jiu Jitsu regularly, among his many exercise routines.

His first job with the UFC was as a backstage interviewer in 1997 at UFC 12: Judgement Day. He debuted as a commentator for the UFC in 2002, at UFC 37.5, and has been doing it ever since.

Today, he reportedly earns $5,000 for working normal UFC fights and $50,000 for those hosted on pay-per-view. Altogether, it's estimated that UFC earns him about $550,000 a year.

Comedy

One of the longest-standing aspects of Joe Rogan's career is his comedy. He got his start in the Boston area in 1988 before moving to Los Angeles to pursue it more seriously in 1994.

He's appeared in the sitcoms Hardball and NewsRadio, and in 2000 he released his first comedy special, I'm Gonna Be Dead Someday.

Many people know him from his stint as the host of Fear Factor, a game show which ran from 2001 to 2006 and briefly revived with Rogan from 2011 - 2012. During this time, he was performing live at comedy clubs like the famed Comedy Store in West Hollywood, and releasing 10 comedy specials on CD, DVD, and then eventually Netflix.

Titles include Live from the Belly of the Beast, Talking Monkeys in Space, and the latest, Strange Times, released in 2018.

Assets

While we can't know everything that Joe Rogan owns, we do know that in 2020 he purchased a house in Lake Austin, Texas, for $14.4 million.

The enormous mansion is reportedly 10,980 square feet, has eight bedrooms, and boasts an excellent view of Lake Austin.

Joe Rogan is also known for his love of classic cars—though he does claim to enjoy driving around his Tesla Model S as well.

Among his collection are a Porsche 911 GT3 RS ($300,000), a 1965 Corvette Stingray ($125,000), a Ford Mustang, a BMW M3, a Ford Bronco, and an MK IV Toyota Supra.

Bottom Line

Joe Rogan has proven that it pays to talk. Through his work as an actor, commentator, comedian, host, and interviewer, he's accumulated wealth that most of us could only ever dream of.

And he shows no signs of slowing down.

Though we may never know exactly how much is in his bank account, it's likely that most are underestimating his true net worth, which may be in the hundreds of millions.
