Reasons We Like Four Seasons Resort Maui

  • You're on prime beach real estate. The Four Seasons Maui lies directly in the middle of prime Wailea, overlooking the beach. You are just steps away from soft sand and clear, warm ocean water.

Its location in Wailea also means there's a lot going on around the resort. There are neighboring resorts, high-end shops, golf courses, etc. It is a busy part of the island with a lot of action.

  • Beautiful grounds to enjoy. The grounds include a few gardens containing tropical plants, fountains, and pathways for brisk walks near the ocean. Enjoy the Hawaiian hales, the sculpture garden, and the plumeria garden.

  • Relax in luxe rooms. The Four Seasons received a major multimillion dollar facelift in 2016. A lot of detail went into making the guest rooms comfortable and luxurious. There are a large variety of suites to choose from, with several options in each (more detail later).

All rooms have luxury touches such as oversized marble bathrooms, deep soak tubs, private outdoor patios, and Nespresso machines.

Keep an eye out on deals:
Offers are updated on a regular basis and include discount rates for certain days, nightly resort credits, and more.

  • There's no resort fee. There is absolutely no resort fee at Four Seasons. We appreciate that there are no hidden fees or nickeling-and-diming for using the amenities. Many of the amenities and activities are complimentary.

  • Many daily outdoor classes & activities. There are lots of classes and activities offered so you won't be bored. Complimentary classes include introductory scuba lessons, outrigger canoe paddling, and fitness classes (like Pilates, agua cardio, etc.). You can also borrow snorkel equipment for free up to an hour.

Classes like stand-up paddleboard yoga, scooter snorkeling, and tennis lessons can be taken for a fee. You can also do activities like horseback riding, zip-lining, and volcano tours for a fee.

  • Parents can get away for a bit. Need a few hours to yourself? The free Kids For All Seasons Program provides daily educational activities for kids aged 5-12. The adults can enjoy themselves while the kids have fun; there are educational activities like creating tropical arts & crafts and Hawaiian bowling. This program is year-round, from 9am-5pm.

If you're traveling with babies or toddlers, Four Seasons can provide complimentary baby amenities like strollers, play pen, swings, etc. It also offers a nanny service for a fee.

  • Keep kids entertained in the family Games Room. Families and kids will love this. The onsite game room has pool, ping pong, and an assortment of DVDs and video games on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii. All are free of charge.

  • Complimentary cabanas and beach loungers. Relax by any of the 3 on-site pools. All lounge chairs and one cabana per room are offered free of charge for each booking. First come, first serve. Only the luxury cabanas at the adults-only Serenity Pool have a fee to use.

  • Complimentary recreational facilities. Like a little workout on your vacation? There's a 24-hour fitness center overlooking the gardens, though it's open air, so it may get a little warm. There are also 2 tennis courts, a putting green, and a croquet course for complimentary use.

  • 3 pools with different feels. There are three pools in total: The Serenity Pool (an adults-only infinity pool), The Fountain Pool, and the Waterfall Pool (primarily for kids and family). Each pool comes with full poolside food and beverage service.

  • Assortment of spa treatments. You can get beachside service in a thatched hut with wide-open ocean views. Get massages, facial, body wraps, scrubs, masks, manicure, pedicure, hair, or bridal services, providing hair and make-up for your big day. Poolside treatments are offered from 10am to 5pm.

  • Perfect wedding venue. With 25,529 square feet of indoor and outdoor space for your wedding day, the options for your wedding are limitless. They contain 11 different event spaces and a dedicated wedding planner. Only one wedding is booked per day, so you can feel special on your big day.

  • World-class golf courses. With 3 courses to choose from, your golf game can be tailored to any skill level. Each course offers a variety of views, challenges, and holes.

  • Exceptional customer service. Four Seasons Maui certainly lives up to its luxury reputation by delivering top-notch customer service. Every detail - from the lei greetings to poolside refreshments to cucumber slices for your eyelids - is thought of so you can have the best experience.

If you book one of the 21 oceanfront suites, you get a personal assistant who will help fulfill all of your requests. They promise "We can arrange almost anything" and they make sure to get the job done.

Reasons You Might Look Elsewhere

  • It's too kid-friendly. Let's face it, a family-friendly resort is not for everyone. If you like to sit in uninterrupted solace, without kids on the premises, then this might not be the resort for you.

  • Breakfast is not included. There is no continental breakfast included in the room rate. You have to pay for your own breakfast (a la carte, buffet, or in-room-dining are all available options). Only the prestigious Club Floor Room and elite suites get breakfast included.

  • They Don't Offer a Luau. With all of the family-friendly activity, you may be surprised that they don't offer a nightly luau for entertainment. There are a few within the area of Wailea, but nothing directly on the property.

  • Additional Charges for Parking. If you are renting your own car, the parking for that car is $35.00 per night.

Not renting a car? There are many ways to arrive at the Four Seasons for your stay. There are taxis, shuttles, private cars, and limousines. And Four Seasons provides free transportation to destinations in Wailea. However, if you want to visit other parts of the island, you will need a car.

There are 383 rooms, including 21 oceanfront suites. The rooms have elegant modern designs.

Even the entry-level guestrooms are large and luxurious, starting at 600 sq. ft. All rooms have:

  • Oversized marble bathrooms
  • Deep-soak tub
  • Nespresso machine
  • Private outdoor living area
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
  • Flat screen TV with DVD player

For those staying in one of the elite oceanfront suites, you get additional perks such as:

  • Round-trip airport transfers
  • Daily breakfasts
  • Unlimited laundry service
  • Private in-suite dinner
  • A personal assistant to help plan your experiences
  • Wine list personally curated for Elite Suites by Christian Navarro
  • Wrap-around lanais

Don't want to leave your fur baby at home? Dogs and cats are welcome as well, as long as they are under 15 pounds.

Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available as well, with Garden-Views, Partial Ocean-Views, Ocean-View Prime, and Ocean-View Prime Executive Suites. All wheelchair-accessible rooms come equipped with wide accessible doors, roll-in showers, grab bars for the tub and lowered peepholes, light switches, toilets, and counters.

There's no shortage of good dining at Four Seasons, featuring some of Maui's most acclaimed restaurants.

  • Spago: The famous Wolfgang Puck's Spago serves Hawaiian and California fusion cuisine, with beautiful panoramic ocean views.

  • Duo: Voted the best steakhouse on Maui. A fun, casual poolside restaurant serving local steak and seafood.

  • Ferraros: A romantic, Zagat-rated oceanfront restaurant serving modern Mediterranean-Italian fare with an extensive Italian wine list.

  • The Lobby Lounge: Pop in for handcrafted cocktails, appetizers, and nightly live music.

  • The Beachwalk Café: A good option for a quick bite, cup of coffee, or beer.

There's even fantastic in-room dining options for those who want to order from bed or snuggle in for the night with the family and watch a movie.

Concierge Service: It states on their site "We can arrange almost anything," and that takes a strong team. The concierge staff is made up of approximately 25 employees. Six of those employees are members of the elite Les Clefs d'Or concierge association. They are all ready for your requests, from 6am to 11pm HST. And they can be contacted via email: or via phone: +1 (808) 874-2201.

Four Seasons Maui has three saltwater pools, each unique in its own way. Each has a view, as well as full poolside food and beverage service.

  • The Fountain Pool: This is the main pool, reminiscent of an Italian fountain. All cabanas here are free to use on a first come, first served basis.
  • Waterfall Pool: This pool is popular with the kids and family. There's a higher part and a lower part, linked by a small water slide. The cabanas here are also free to use.
  • Serenity Pool: This is the adults-only infinity pool. There is a swim-up bar so you can grab a cocktail while floating. Sixty free lounge chairs are available, but you can also reserve a luxury cabana for a fee. These are equipped with flat screen HD TV, Wi-Fi, ceiling fans, and mini fridges.

At all pools, you get a complimentary amenity every hour, sunscreen, Evian spritz, and cucumber slices for your eyes. You can even borrow a fully loaded e-reader and enjoy some books while you lounge.

Four Seasons Maui offers extensive spa services. You can book indoor treatments in one of the 13 rooms. Or you can even enjoy the treatments in a traditional beachside thatched hut with wide-open ocean views.

Poolside massages and facials are offered from 10am to 5pm.

Besides the traditional services like massages, facials, body wrap, scrubs, mani/pedis, and hair care, the spa also offers specialty treatments and Hawaiian massages.

It also offers wellness packages for those looking for overall better health. Some options include detox programs, weight loss itinerary, and fitness treatments.

There are three options when it comes to golf:

  • Wailea Blue Course: Located within the foothills of Haleakala, it features wide fairways and hazards for all handicaps.

  • Wailea Gold Course: An 18-hole course framed by lava rock with abundant tropical flora and fauna. With strategically placed hazards and changes in elevation, this course is known as a "thinking player's" course.

  • Wailea Emerald Course: An 18-hole course with views of Haleakala. The ranging of tee boxes allow you to customize your course for your specific level.

The wedding grounds and options include 11 different event spaces. Venue location includes amazing views of the beach and coastline as your backdrop.

Wedding packages may include:

  • 25,529 square feet of indoor/outdoor space
  • Up to a 250-guest reception capacity
  • Use of the spa or salon for getting ready
  • A dedicated wedding planner assigned to all of your wedding day needs

Guests can easily book rooms near each other with the Four Season's Passkey system. A customized page will be created for all of your guests to easily book their room directly.

A promise is made to each couple that your wedding will be the only wedding booked for that day. The day is yours and yours alone.

How It Compares

  • Grand Wailea: Both hotels are highly-rated, family-friendly, and have a wide variety of activities. Kids will certainly enjoy Grand Wailea's pools more. The pools are huge and have all sorts of slides and water features. There's also a Grand Luau on site, which Four Seasons doesn't offer. However, it does charge a daily resort fee plus fees for some amenities, so the costs may add up more.

  • Montage Kapalua Bay: Both hotels are five-star establishments. Montage is located on West Maui in Kapalua. There's not much to do within walking distance, so this is a good choice if you're looking for a quieter, more secluded escape. It's good for couples without kids, who don't mind less activities on-site.

  • Andaz: These hotels are both rated highly. Andaz may appeal more to couples without children. It has more of a chic vibe that couples may enjoy.

Bottom Line

The Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea is an excellent 5-star location to stay. They do not charge resort fees and many of their activities are complimentary. This resort is all about luxury and customer service.

The rooms are regularly maintained and the staff will always go the extra mile to fulfill your needs. They provide a wide variety of options for adults as well as kids so everyone is happy.

To this day, The Four Seasons Resort has consistently maintained its lead as one of the top preferred hotels in Wailea. And we're sure they'll continue to do so.

Jobs: There are several job opportunities that arise within the Four Seasons in general. Many can be found posted on their site. Internship opportunities can also be found for those wanting to apply just after college and travel to the islands. Their moto when hiring is "Whether you work with us, stay with us, live with us, discover with us, we believe our purpose is to create impressions that will stay with you for a lifetime."
