Tips and Tricks to Save Money at Gymboree

Gymboree's fashionable collections of baby and children's clothes are hard for any parent to resist. But their prices are not a budget-savvy shopper's best friend. However, with a little finagling and good timing, you can score amazing deals on Gymboree clothes. Here's how.

How to Get the Best Deals at Gymboree

• Join the mailing list. Sign up for Gymboree emails and receive a welcome offer of 20% off your next purchase. You’ll also receive exclusive coupons and discounts throughout the year. Be sure to include your address, as Gymboree mails coupons to its subscribers throughout the year.

• Sign up for Gymboree Rewards. Register for the free rewards program and earn 1 point for every dollar spent at Gymboree, which you can convert to a $5 rewards card when you hit 250 points. You’ll also get access to members-only coupons and early access to some sales.

• Use a coupon. Gymboree always has a plethora of coupons available. Before you hit the store, look for email coupons or go through the latest parents magazines for a paper coupon. For online shopping, look for the latest Gymboree promo code on CreditDonkey. Usually, only one coupon or coupon code can be used per transaction, but they can typically be used on sale items.

• Follow on social media. Gymboree regularly announces sales and discounts on their Facebook and Twitter pages. Social media is also one of the best places to find the occasional free shipping code.

• Earn and redeem Gymbucks. Gymboree offers Gymbucks six times during the year. Earning periods typically run for 6 weeks, where you earn one Gymbuck (good for $25 off your $50 purchase) for every $50 spent. Redemption periods start after the earnings period ends and typically run for about 2 weeks. You have to use your Gymbucks in the redemption period right after you earned them, and they can’t be combined with other coupons. However, you can use coupons when earning Gymbucks and you can redeem them on sale and clearance merchandise to get great deals.

• Shop the clearance section. Gymboree tends to keep new merchandise at full price for only a few weeks before it goes on sale and eventually moves to clearance. Clearance prices in store and online can be up to 70% off the original price and can often be combined with a coupon for an additional discount. Gymboree also has outlet locations around the country, where you can score even greater deals.

• Bundle items. Shipping is always free on orders of $75 or more. For orders under $75, shipping is a flat $5, so it is best to bundle all of your items into one order to avoid paying multiple shipping fees.

• Pay with Gymboree Visa. This credit card has no annual fee and gets you a 5% discount on all Gymboree purchases in store and online. Plus, you’ll get a 1% reward on all other purchases and get a $10 store bonus just for signing up. (Keep in mind that retail credit cards usually come with a higher APR. Go this route only if you plan to pay off your balance every month and if you are a regular Gymboree shopper. You may get more use out of a general-purpose cash back credit card.)

• Price adjust. If you purchase an item and it goes on sale within 7 days of your purchase, Gymboree will refund the difference in price. Note that you can’t price adjust online orders at Gymboree retail stores.

• Return in store. Save on return shipping charges by returning online items at a Gymboree retail store.

• Join Gymboree Play and Music. By signing up for a class for your child at a Gymboree Play and Music location, you’ll gain access to exclusive discounts and coupons, including coupons for 30% off your entire purchase 3 times a year.

When to Shop at Gymboree

• Friends and Family Sale. These sales happen a few times a year, usually running over a weekend in May, August, and November. Employees typically hand out special coupons for 30% off your entire purchase in the weeks leading up to the sale. Rewards members also receive a coupon via email.

• Baby sale. Twice a year, in February and September, Gymboree runs a sale when all baby items are reduced to either $10 or $20, which can lead to discounts of nearly 50% on some items.

• Semi-annual sale. The Red Balloon Annual Sale, typically held in December/January and June, offers prices up to 70% off on items from previous seasons. Use a coupon during the sale to save even more money. A coupon code for free shipping is also typically available during the sale.

• Jingle Deals. Starting in mid-November, Gymboree releases a new Jingle Deal each week with a sale on a certain line of clothes or a specific item. These sales can be combined with coupons and usually provide great discounts on seasonal clothing such as pajamas, holiday sweaters and dresses.

What to Buy at Gymboree

• Size 10-12 Clothing. Gymboree is known for baby and toddler clothing, but it has a large collection of items for older children as well. Because this section is often overlooked, you can frequently find a large collection of size 10-12 clothing in the sale or clearance section.

• Overlapping sizes. Gymboree offers certain baby and toddler clothing in sizes that overlap, such as size 3- to 6-month items in the newborn and baby sections. Overlapping sizes means there is more inventory to move and a greater chance that it will be on sale or clearance.

• Party and fancy clothes. Gymboree clothes are great quality in general but especially for fancier clothes and dresses. You can find other play clothes at a lower cost elsewhere, but it is hard to beat the style, quality, and prices of special-occasion Gymboree clothes.

What Not to Buy at Gymboree

• Accessories. While larger clothing items are often marked down to very low prices, accessories aren’t marked down as frequently. They also aren’t marked down with as steep of a discount. Accessories are good for helping you reach a threshold to earn Gymbucks, but shouldn’t be purchased on their own or for full price unless they’re must-have items.

• Underwear. Underwear can typically be found in the sale and clearance sections but at much smaller discounts than other products. Save money by buying cheaper underwear at big box stores.
