You need to study for 300 - 400 hours before you sit for the CPA exam. Because of the exam's complexity, you need a program to help you study the right information. Roger CPA Review claims that their students have a 91% pass rate. Is the program worth it?

Roger CPA Review takes a different stand on studying for the CPA exam. Roger Philip, the founder, wanted something that was enjoyable rather than a process participants would dread. While he knows there isn't a whole lot that is exciting about studying for the CPA exam, he came up with the "Roger method" to help make the topics fun - and reviewers agree.

So what sets the Roger CPA Review apart from any other CPA review? Keep reading to find out.

Who Should Use Roger CPA Review

  • You like memorization aids to help you retain information. Studying for the CPA exam is not easy. You have to take in a large amount of information in a short amount of time. Roger CPA Review includes many mnemonics to help make studying and memorizing the information easier.

  • You like automatic updates rather than being forced to pay for updates when CPA exam information changes. Some CPA review programs require their students to buy the updates when things change. Roger CPA Review automatically updates the information for you, at no charge.

  • You like short and engaging videos. Let's face it - accounting isn't an exciting topic, but Roger Philip, the founder of Roger CPA Review, makes them exciting. He keeps the lectures short, but makes them high energy to help you enjoy the topic and of course, learn the material.

Reasons We Like Roger CPA Review

  • They use SmartPath Predictive Technology to help you succeed. Not everyone learns/studies the same way and Roger CPA Review recognizes that. Their latest technology recognizes where you excel and where you need help. They then target their recommendations for your studies in the areas that need help, to hopefully help you pass the CPA exam.

  • They offer more than 6,200 multiple-choice questions for you to practice. Among those questions are those released by the AICPA, helping you to be more prepared for the CPA exam.

  • They provide solutions to the problems to help you learn the answer the right way. If you answer a question incorrectly, they provide a written solution so that you know what you need to study in order to master the question.

  • You'll receive diagnostic reports to help you understand your progress. Roger CPA keeps track of the questions you answer correctly and incorrectly. You can then sort the questions by those you answered incorrectly or skipped altogether. This way, you know where to focus your studies to help you pass the test.

  • You can customize your study planner. Planning your studies is crucial to success on the CPA exam. Roger CPA Review lets you set up a 3-, 6-, 9-, or 12-month study plan. The program then creates a proven study plan based on the time you have, even figuring in days off.

  • You'll receive messages from a "personal trainer." Studying for the CPA exam is tough and it can be easy to want to throw in the towel. The Roger CPA Review Personal Trainer helps prevent that from happening by sending you tips tailored to your area of study. They also send motivational messages to keep you going.

  • The Premier and Elite packages offer access to the Homework Help Center. You can read answers given to others as well as post your own questions. There are more than 17,000 answered questions in the database that you can search through yourself or you can submit your own question. You'll typically receive an answer to your question within 24 hours.

  • You'll receive access to both physical and digital books for each of the four topics. If you are a visual learner, you can use the digital books for your studies. You can even highlight in the eBooks as the video lectures cover the topic. If you prefer the book in hand, you'll also have access to the physical book. This allows you to learn the way that works best for you.

  • You get unlimited access to practice tests. You can take the practice tests as many times as you need in order to feel ready for the test. The exams are in the same format as the CPA exam. You'll have decent insight on what to expect when you take the exam.

  • You can access your studies on your computer or mobile device. Your progress syncs on all devices, which means you can sneak a little studying time in while you are away from home if you find yourself with some downtime.

Reasons You May Want to Look Elsewhere

  • You have to buy the Elite package, which is the most expensive package if you want unlimited access. The Select Course offers 18-month access and the Premier offers 24-month access. If something gets in your way of studying (because we know life happens), you may run out of time and have to pay for a course all over again.

  • The short coverage on topics could leave the inexperienced without enough knowledge. Some people appreciate the brief videos, but these people have already worked in the accounting industry and have real-life experience, which is better than a textbook. If you don't have real-life experience, you may find the videos lacking the general knowledge you need to pass the exam.

  • It may be hard to watch the videos away from home. The videos have a lot of content and can be too large for many data packages. If you planned to study while you were away from home, you may be sorely disappointed in your ability to connect.

How It Compares

  • Becker: Becker is a higher-priced CPA review program that provides only 18 months of access. If you have to renew, it will cost you 50% of the full price. Becker's textbooks are also more complicated than the Roger CPA Review textbooks. Becker does offer more practice questions that are better tailored to the actual CPA exam.

  • Gleim: Gleim has one of the largest practice question banks available out many other CPA review programs. Their exam questions also mimic what you'll see on the CPA exam, helping you to feel more comfortable when you sit for the exam. You also don't have to worry about running out of time, as Gleim offers an Access Until You Pass Guarantee.

  • Wiley: Wiley's prices are comparable to the Roger CPA Review prices, but Roger does offer a financing option. Wiley's programs never expire, so you don't have to worry about forking over more money if you don't finish in time. Wiley also has more practice questions, but the material isn't nearly as engaging as the material in the Roger CPA Review videos.

Bottom Line

There's a reason Roger CPA Review is so popular. It's engaging, affordable, and provides ample time to pass the test. If you prefer short and to-the-point videos along with interactive textbooks and a forum to ask questions, you may want Roger CPA Review on your radar.
