We love discount rewards credit cards because they pay us back in the form of discounts at our favorite retailers.
There are two ways you can enjoy discounts at your favorite retailers using a discount rewards credit card: You can choose a credit card that has been specifically introduced by a particular retailer (e.g. Citi’s MTVU card offers 10 percent at all MTV stores), or you can choose a credit card that offers a number of retailer discounts each month.

Here is what you need to know when choosing a discount rewards credit card that is right for you:
- Consider maximum benefits for your favorite retailer – Whatever you choose, it is important to pick a discount rewards credit that offers you the maximum benefits when it comes time to spend money at your favorite retailer. Don’t choose a discount rewards credit card for a retailer for which you don’t often spend money, as you will likely never reap the rewards of the discounts. Instead, consider where you shop or spend money often, and use this as the most important gauge.
- Make sure to follow the terms and conditions – In order to retain your discount privileges, you must adhere to the card’s terms and conditions. In other words, if you fail to pay your bill on time or you fail to pay at least the minimum payment, the creditor will likely revoke your discount privileges.
- Peruse the other perks – Most discount rewards credit cards offer more than just discounts at your favorite retailer, and you should look into the card’s other rewards benefits. Many of the discount rewards credit cards offer valuable rewards packages as well, such as cash back and frequent flyer miles.
- Take advantage of incentives – Some discount rewards credit cards offer other incentives as well, such as attractive balance transfer options or zero percent promotional interest rates. In addition to receiving valuable retailer discounts, you may simultaneously take advantage of a great balance transfer option to pay off your other higher interest rate credit card debt.
- Contemplate your spending habits – Before choosing a discount rewards credit card, make sure you understand which discounts are the most important to you. You may want to consider your spending habits and then compare the discount programs between a number of cards so you can be sure you are choosing the right discount rewards credit card that will save you the most money.
- Find a card with multiple retailer discounts – Consider choosing a discount rewards credit card that has teamed up with a number of major retailers, as this may afford you more benefits than a credit card that only offers discounts through one retail outlet. There are a number of great credit cards that provide credit card customers with regular discounts at a plethora of major retailers, so look into all of your options before choosing a discount rewards credit card.
A discount rewards credit card can give you money just for shopping at your favorite stores. Taking the time to review your options can help you save money – just for your current shopping habits!
