Pros and Cons

  • 2% cashback bonus at gas stations and restaurants
  • 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 14 months
  • $0 annual fee
  • Low everyday cashback rate

Bottom Line

Good no annual fee credit card for people who spend mostly on gas and restaurants

Cashback

This card earns cash back on all your purchases. For your first $3,000 in annual purchases, you earn 0.25% cash back. After you’ve spent $3,000 in a year, you begin earning 1% cash back on regular purchases.

You earn extra cash back for purchases at restaurants and gas stations. This card earns 2% cash for up to $250 in gas and restaurant purchases per month. Once you reach this monthly limit, you earn the regular cash back rate until the end of the month.

You can redeem your cash back rewards for cash, a credit toward your account balance, or gift cards at a wide range of retailers. You must earn at least $20 in rewards to request a gift card and at least $50 to request cash or a credit toward your account balance.

APR

This card offers a 0% introductory APR on purchases for 14 months as an additional bonus for new cardholders.

This introductory rate also applies to balance transfers. If you are paying interest on your other cards, transferring your balances to the Discover Open Road Card can help reduce the interest you pay. Keep in mind, there is a 3% balance transfer fee.

After the introductory period is over, the card charges an APR of between 10.99% and 20.99%. Your rate depends on your creditworthiness.

Pros

  • Earns cash back on all purchases + extra cash back on restaurant and gas purchases
  • No annual fee
  • 0% introductory rate on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months

Cons

  • Cash back rate is low on regular purchases, especially for the first $3,000 of annual purchases
  • Bonus cash back only applies to gas and restaurants
  • Need to earn at least $20 in cash back to redeem for a gift certificate, $50 to redeem for cash or an credit to your account

Bottom Line

This is a good, low hassle card for someone who wants to save on gas and restaurants each month. If you don't spend much on gas or at restaurants, you may be better off with a card that has a broader cash back program.
