Read more about Make Money

TikTok has exploded in popularity. But how much do TikTokers really make? Learn more about the top-earning TikTok creators and how they get paid.

TikTok has taken the world by storm.

With more than 100 million active users in the U.S. alone, TikTok has also become a hot new way to make money.

TikTok fame doesn't come easy, though. For every TikToker making bank, there are thousands of others making nothing at all.

But, it is possible to make good money as a TikToker. How much you'll make depends on a number of factors, including your following and view count.

Learn more about how TikTokers get paid. Plus, find out how to increase your chances of making money from TikTok.

The most famous TikTokers can make as much as $5 million per year.[1] Of course, these are the outliers.

Most TikTokers who have more than 100,000 followers make from $200 to $5,000 a month. In general, the more followers you have, the more you're able to earn. TikTokers with more than 1 million followers make the most money.

Who earns the most on TikTok?
  1. Addison Rae: $5 million, 86.4M followers
  2. Charli D'Amelio: $4 million, 125M followers
  3. Dixie D'Amelio: $2.9 million, 55.1M followers
  4. Loren Gray: $2.6 million, 54.1M followers
  5. Josh Richards: $1.5 million, 25.5M followers

How Much Do TikTokers Make Per View?

TikTokers with at least 10,000 followers and 100,000 views in the last 30 days can make money with the TikTok Creator Fund.

The Creator Fund pays about 2 to 4 cents for every 1,000 views. A video with 1 million views, for example, would earn between $20 and $40.

Since the Creator Fund pays so little, most TikTokers rely on other ways to make money, such as brand deals and song promotions. (More on this below.)

How Much Do TikTokers Make With 1 Million Followers?

TikTok influencers with 1 million followers can make around $8,000 to $10,000 per sponsored post. But influencers with the most followers on the platform can make a lot more.

TikTokers with more than 1 million followers can make big money. Creators with more than 25 million followers can make $20,000 or more per post. The biggest TikTokers on the platform can earn as much $90,000 for just one sponsored post.[2]

Fun Fact: Less than 1% of TikTok influencers have more than 1 million followers.

Do TikTokers Get Paid for Likes?

Although TikTokers don't actually get paid per like, influencers can get better brand deals if they have high engagement.

To make money, TikTok creators need good engagement on their videos through likes and comments.

When brands collaborate with TikTokers, they want their posts to really connect with their audience. A high engagement rate means there's greater potential that the audience will respond well to the sponsored post.

How Do TikTokers Make Money?

TikTok influencers have a variety of ways to make money. Here are the most common ways TikTokers earn:

TikTok Creator Fund
Creators can make money directly through TikTok by applying for the Creator Fund. To participate in the Creator Fund, you need to be 18 years or older, have at least 10,000 followers, and have at least 100,000 views in the last 30 days.

Creators get paid just a few pennies for every 1,000 views on their videos. Since the pay is so low, most TikTokers don't just rely on the Creator Fund to make money.

TikTok LIVE Gifting
When a TikToker hosts a live stream, other users can send them virtual gifts. Users age 18 and older can buy coins through the app, which they can use to send gifts. These gifts can be redeemed for real cash.

TikTokers with more than 1,000 followers can go live and make money. Creators can withdraw up to $1,000 per week once they've received enough gifts to exchange for cash.

Brand Deals
The bulk of income for most successful TikTokers comes from partnerships with brands. Brands and creators work together to create sponsored videos.

This is where follower count and engagement rate really come into play. Creators with more followers and higher engagement can negotiate for higher pay. In general, a TikToker can earn from $200 to $20,000 for a sponsored video.

Song Promotions
Another popular way for TikTokers to earn money is by promoting songs in their videos. Record labels pay TikTokers to use new music in their videos in hopes of making the song go viral.

Creators can set their own rates based on their follower count and engagement. The biggest TikTok influencers with more than 1 million followers can earn between $2,000 and $20,000 per post. Smaller TikTokers with 5,000 to 50,000 followers can earn between $20 and $200 per post.

Selling Merchandise
TikTokers with a strong following can make extra income from selling their own merch. Creators can set up an ecommerce store or sell merch on Etsy. Fans buy these items to show support for their favorite creators.

Affiliate Marketing
Creators can also make money through affiliate marketing. TikTokers recommend products to fans and include a link to buy it. When fans use that link to make a purchase, the creator makes a commission off the sale.

Who Are the Highest-Earning TikTokers?

How much money can you really make posting seconds-long videos? More than you think. Here's how much the top-earning TikTokers are estimated to bring in per year:

  1. Addison Rae: $5 million, 86.4M followers
  2. Charli D'Amelio: $4 million, 125M followers
  3. Dixie D'Amelio: $2.9 million, 55.1M followers
  4. Loren Gray: $2.6 million, 54.1M followers
  5. Josh Richards: $1.5 million, 25.5M followers

5 Ways to Grow Your TikTok Account

Understand Your Audience
Create videos with a particular niche in mind. Most successful TikTokers specialize in just one area of content.

Whether your niche is comedy, fashion, or personal finance, the important part is that you stick with your niche. Otherwise, you could alienate your audience, who expect certain types of content.

Post Videos Regularly
You can keep your audience engaged by posting on a consistent basis. New users are also more likely to follow you if you consistently put out content. Plus, posting often will help you figure out the best times to reach your viewers.

Participate in TikTok Trends
Always be on the lookout for trends that fit your niche. TikTok is full of new trends, and you don't have to participate in all of them. But if you jump on a relevant trend while it's still fresh, you could reach a lot of new users.

Use Hashtags
Hashtags make it easier for other users to discover your videos. This can help you reach more people and grow your audience. Make sure you're using hashtags that are specific to your type of content.

Cross-Promote Your Content
TikTok probably isn't the only social media platform you use. You can leverage other platforms like Instagram and YouTube to share your TikTok content. With this tactic, you can grow your following on both platforms at the same time.

Bottom Line

It's possible to make money as a full-time TikToker. But the path to get there isn't easy.

How much you'll actually earn from making TikTok videos depends a lot on how much work you're willing to put in. It can take a lot of time and effort to grow your account before you're able to make good money.

TikTok can be a fantastic side hustle. Not everyone will achieve TikTok stardom. But if you make videos because you enjoy it, any money you bring in will just feel like a nice bonus.
