On a hot summer day, a donkey struggled under bags of flour he planned to sell. "I fear I won't be able to make it," he said. "Can you help me?"

The stronger, bigger horse scoffed. "Your goods are your problem - and my goods are mine. Carry on."

"I'm just going to drink and rest," the donkey said.

"Suit yourself!" the horse whinnied, and quickened his pace.

At the market, a man praised the horse's apples. "I would love to buy half your stock!" the man said. "I want to make apple pies, but I'll need flour."

The horse shook his head and explained the donkey usually brought flour but couldn't make it today. "That's very disappointing," the man said, turning to go away.

"Wait!" the horse yelled. "If the donkey and his flour are here in an hour, will you buy my apples?" The man nodded. "Yes, that would be perfect!"

"Please forgive me!" the horse pleaded. "I will help you carry your flour. Can we go now?"

The donkey perked up. "Of course!" The two galloped together to the market.

"What magnificent flour you have!" the man told the donkey. "I'd like to buy more flour and apples than I originally wanted." The man spread the word about the horse's and donkey's goods, and they quickly sold out.

"I will help you carry flour to market any day you need it," the horse told the donkey.

Whenever you have the opportunity, help your neighbors. Generosity and charity are investments in your community's future, which in turn benefits you.
