Discover Open Road Review

Read more about Discover Open Road Card

The Discover Open Road Card is the perfect credit card for automotive enthusiasts and travelers. For starters, this Discover card offers you a 0% Annual Percentage Rate (APR) on balance transfers for the first year, as long as your credit is significantly above average. The 0% APR applies to your purchases for the first six months, as well. After that time, your APR becomes variable between 10.99 and 18.99%, again depending on your credit. Discover’s website (www.discovercard.com) allows you to take a look at various rate scenarios based on your credit so you won’t be surprised by the rates you are offered upon approval. The card comes with no annual fee, but there is a 3% charge on balance transfers. If you’ve decided to transfer a high rate balance to your new Discover Open Road Card, the balance transfer fee is a small price to pay.

Each Discover card offers a different rewards program. The Open Road Card program offers you unlimited cash back rewards on purchases. Specifically, you’ll receive 5% cash back rewards on auto-related purchases, such as gas, car washes and detailing, oil changes, and even maintenance and parts. Your other day-to-day purchases receive a 1% cash back reward, as well. If you use the “Shop Discover” online stores, you can earn anywhere between 5 and 20% cash back on those purchases. Your rewards can either be converted into retailer gift cards or deposited directly as cash into your bank account. An added bonus is that your rewards do not expire.

Convenience is a great feature with the Open Road Card. Discover promises phone customer service within 60 seconds and you’ll automatically have online access to check balances, rewards, and to pay your bill. You can choose your payment date to add convenience to paying monthly bills, and Discover also offers email payment reminders so that you can avoid late fees for missed payments.

Your security is also an important benefit with Discover, so you’ll have zero liability on fraudulent charges. This means that if your card is lost or stolen and used, you won’t have to pay any of the bad charges. If you do have a problem with fraud, Discover’s fraud specialists are available around the clock to help you, an added benefit that will help you feel secure. When you make an online purchase, you can use a one-time secure account number that was generated for that particular transaction instead of putting your real card number on the Internet.

The Open Road card also comes with Discover’s travel benefits. You will have access to the Global Traveler Hotline from anywhere in the U.S. or around the world if you need medical or legal assistance while traveling. If your luggage is lost, Discover will track your bags for you, which means less worry over lost items. If you charge car rentals or travel tickets with your card, you’ll automatically become enrolled in insurance programs for both. Finally, if any of your important documents are lost or stolen, Discover will pay to have new ones sent to you anywhere in the world.

If you love taking care of your car and earning cash rewards, the Discover Open Road Card is the best choice.
