Discover More Card Review: Balance Transfer with No Annual Fee

    October 1, 2011 - By Meghan Clark - Review
The Discover More card offers a generous 18-month 0% balance transfer APR, a basic rewards program, and no annual fee. But be aware of the rewards spending threshold and the wide range of possible APRs, especially if you plan on carrying a balance.

My favorite credit card to use is the Discover card cash back card. I am able to receive unlimited cash back and I use this to buy many things like gift cars or to attribute the reward directly to my credit card balance. I also like the fact that the rates is pretty low compared to other credit card companies and especially the fact that I don't pay an annual fee. I used to use the American Express however there was a annual fee and the points didn't add up to cover the cost. Discover gives me a consistent return and has specials where I have the opportunity to make 5% cash back on my purchase. Overall, i'm pretty darn happy with this card and feel that it's the best choice overall.

Discover Cashback Bonus card was one of the more recent credit cards I applied for. At first, I wasn't that interested in applying for a Discover card because Discover was not as widely accepted as Visa and Mastercard. Although this was true in the early 2000s, most stores that accept credit cards usually accept Discover these days. So, times have changed! I'm most attracted to Discover's superior cash back returns. I mainly use my Discover card on the 5% cash back in rotating categories to maximize my rewards. I always fare better than 5% return because I redeem my cash back for gift cards. I can choose between a $20 check or a $25 gift card to brands such as Gap, Banana Republic, Lands End, Sally Beauty, Foot Locker and many more. I always choose to redeem for gift cards because they are a better return -- 6.25% ($25 gift card/$400 spending). I reckon I have to buy gift cards for birthdays and Christmas gifts anyway, so why not redeem them from Discover for lower than their face value? Plus, I also save a trip to the store.

Discover card is also perfect for those who are paranoid about shopping online. I can get a virtual credit card number instantly at my request on the Discover website. I love this function when shopping from a public computer. This virtual credit card number is only good for one time use, so if anyone happens to get hold of my virtual credit card number, they wouldn't be able to do anything with it.

Discover is the main credit card I use when travelling overseas (which I often do, I'm temporarily based in Asia now). Discover charges a lower fee for international charges (2%) versus Visa and Mastercard (Both 3%). However, with the 5% cash back, I am still 3% ahead after accounting for the fees Discover charges.

I love my discover card. I try and use the card whenever I can versus any other form of payment. My discover card allows me cash back on several of my purchases (specifically, they have times where specific purchases will count for 5% cash back). I have used this to redeem for Cabelas gift cards to support my hunting hobby! Another thing I like about my discover card is whenever I have a dispute or an issue with a past purchase (bad charge, double charge, or potential fraud), Discover card is there to be by my side. One time I purchased a laptop using my discover card and about 7 months later, I realized I was missing some valuable CDs that should have come with my purchase. I called the vendor and they said too bad we are out of business. I contacted my discover card and within 7 days, I received the CDs that I should have received! They are always polite, I am never bombarded with ways to upsell me (like my Chase or Citibank card) and they provide additional or replacement cards free. Not only is it free, but they have over 100 designs to choose from and I can do this online (instead of calling discover card). Funny enough, my mom, sister and dad are all doing this and getting a unique card for themselves. I picked a retro look where my card looked like a cassette player. In the past 2 weeks, I got several comments on how someone has never seen a card like that before. Needless to say, I am very happy with my discover card and it by far is the first card I reach for. The only issue I have with it is when I am on the West Coast (Washington) not too many vendors take discover card.

I have been using Discover card for over an year now and I am simply delighted by using this card. Not only I like the no annual fee on Discover card, but its low interest rate (as compared to my other card by Bank of America) is great. They automatically review the credit limit and usage and increase the credit limit time to time, according to the history of usage, payment and credit report. (They increased mine twice in about a year)

Besides this, I love the extra offers they give, so I am usually able to get back from their special offers, more than my total interest. So I even save few dollars on what I spent by earning that money. It even worked when I travel out of country under the name of Diners international I simply love their services and would recommend it to all

I have had my Discover credit card for many years and it is my favorite. I use it as much as I can, because it provides me with a cash back reward for each purchase I make. I use my accumulated reward points to get gift cards from Bed, Bath and Beyond, one of my favorite stores. For each $20 in rewards I earn with my Discover card, I am able to get a $25 gift card. I then use my gift card in conjunction with bonus coupons offered by the retailer, so it gives me an even bigger bang for my accumulated reward bucks.

My Discover card is free of fees and they provide excellent customer service. I accidentally left my card at a retailer once, and they promptly put a "hold" on my account until they could issue me a new card. They couldn't have been nicer.

While other cards may offer airline miles or free gasoline, I like my Discover card because I have the flexibility of using my rewards for gift cards, cash to pay down my balance, or even to donate to a charity. This is a credit card that really works in today's competitive marketplace.

I like my Discover card because of the Cashback Bonus program. I can get up to 5% back on gas, restaurants, fashion, and lots of other types of purchases. I can then double it with certain gift cards or get a credit back towards my balance. I like using this option to cover my interest charges--which are pretty low. In addition to the Cashback bonus, Discover also offers up to 1% on all other purchases. I also like Discover's website. It has different Financial Tools to analyze your spending and it's easy to navigate. I've been with Discover for 5 years and I'm satisfied.
