Who can use Delta Sky Club locations? Read this guide to learn how to get access to this group of premium airport lounges.

Delta Sky Club offers a first-class experience even before you board your plane. We'll cover what this exclusive group of airport lounges offers and the many ways you can get access.

Tip: You might already have access without knowing it. Depending on the credit card you hold and the type of airline ticket you bought, Delta Sky Club access might be a free perk. We'll explain below.

In this article:

What Is Delta Sky Club?

Delta Sky Club is a group of airport lounges owned and operated by Delta Air Lines. Advertised as "Your Destination Between Destinations," each lounge boasts a relaxing atmosphere with various perks and amenities.

The difference between Delta Sky Club lounges and regular seating at the gate is much like the difference between first class and economy class on an airplane - the lounges are comfortable, spacious, and full of amenities.

If you think the difference between a first-class and economy-class ticket is worth it, Delta Sky Club might be just another way to make your flying experience more enjoyable and luxurious. If you're loathe to spring for that extra cost, Delta Sky Club might be an unnecessary splurge.

What Amenities Can You Expect?

© Delta News Hub (CC BY 2.0) via Flickr

Though amenities may vary a little from lounge to lounge, all Delta Sky Club lounges provide the following perks:

  • Free Wi-Fi
  • Flight assistance
  • Easily-accessible outlets
  • Satellite TV, newspapers and magazines
  • A large selection of complimentary snacks and regionally-inspired food (see menu)
  • Complimentary nonalcoholic beverages
  • Both complimentary and paid alcoholic beverage options

I use the Delta Sky Club's and their affiliate lounges all over the world. They have the best full menus of food and absolute best hospitality. Many clubs are touted as being much better or cooler, but when it comes to what one needs (even a spa!), Delta Sky Club comes way ahead.

Ava Roxanne Stritt, travel writer, Spa Travel Girl

Some Delta Sky Club lounges provide additional amenities, such as free self-service bars and showers (which are all stocked with Malin + Goetz shower products, plush towels and hair dryers). Further down, we'll provide a list of all Delta Sky Club locations and any additional amenities they offer.

Note: If you've visited a Delta Sky Club lounge in the past, you may have reserved a conference room or used other meeting services. Please note that as of October 6, 2018, Delta Sky Club no longer offers meeting room services at any Club location.

How to Get In

You can get access to Delta Sky Club in many different ways. Each way is subject to varying policies regarding guest access and the type of boarding pass you must hold in order to visit a lounge.

  • Buy a single-visit pass
Anyone flying on Delta or a partner airline can buy a single-visit pass at the Delta Sky Club check-in desk for $59. Single-visit passes don't include any guest privileges.

  • Hold the right credit card

    • Customers with The Platinum Card from American Express (a CreditDonkey Partner) or the Centurion Card can access Delta Sky Club for free. Cardholders need only present a valid credit card and a same-day, Delta-operated airline ticket to enter. They can bring up to two guests with them for a discounted fee of $29 each.

    • Delta Reserve Credit Card Members also get complimentary access to Delta Sky Club when traveling on a Delta-operated flight. They can bring up to two guests for a discounted fee of $29 each.

    • Gold and Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Members and up to two guests can also enjoy Club access for a discounted fee of $29 each.

  • Be a Delta One or SkyTeam Premium Cabin Passenger
Customers traveling on a Delta One flight or flying in international First/Business Class on a SkyTeam operated flight get same-day complimentary access to Delta Sky Club.

  • Become a SkyTeam Elite Plus Member
SkyTeam Elite Plus (including Delta Diamond, Platinum, or Gold Medallion) members traveling in any cabin on a SkyTeam international flight or a SkyTeam domestic flight connecting to/from a same-day international flight receive complimentary Club access with up to one free guest. For lounge access, members may need to show a frequent flyer credential.

I'm a Delta Diamond Medallion member, and every year I opt for a membership to Sky Club. This year, for the first time, it has started to more than pay for itself as they've really made a comprehensive effort to compete with other lounges and loyalty programs.

    Kirsten Alana, digital media entrepreneur

  • Become a Delta Sky Club Member
Delta Sky Club members get free access to any Sky Club Location worldwide and certain partner lounges. Depending on what type of membership you purchase, guests you bring will either get in free or at a discounted rate of $29.

Note: Starting January 1, 2019, Delta Sky Club members can only use the Club with same-day ticketed air travel on Delta or its partner airlines. They also won't have access to partner lounges anymore. (Until then, only a same-day boarding pass with any airline is required for them to enter the Club or partner lounges.)

How to Become a Delta Sky Club Member

A Delta Sky Club Membership provides free access to any Sky Club location worldwide and certain partner lounges. You can purchase a membership either with frequent flyer miles or with cash.

  • Executive Membership: $745/year, 70,000 miles, or 12 monthly installments of $65. This membership includes unlimited Club access for the member and up to two guests per visit.

  • Individual Membership: $495/year, 47,000 miles, or 12 monthly installments of $45. This membership includes unlimited Club access for the member only, but members may bring up to two guests to the Club at a discounted rate of $29 per guest per visit.

Learn more about Delta Sky Club membership

Tip: For only a little more than the Individual Membership, you could pay the annual fee for the American Express Platinum card and get the other benefits that come along with it - including access to four other airport lounge networks, a welcome bonus, a $200 airline fee credit and more.

Rules

Delta provides a lengthy list of house rules regarding admittance, access, and conduct for Delta Sky Club visitors. Here are some highlights:

Entrance

  • You must be at least 18 years old for Club membership or access without a supervising adult.
  • For access to Clubs with a self-service bar, you must be at least 21 years of age unless accompanied by a supervising adult who is also a Club member.

Dress Code

  • Delta reserves the right to deny entry to anyone who could interfere with the Club's dignified, businesslike atmosphere. Dress appropriately.
  • Airline, airport, and industry employees may not enter the Club while wearing work clothes or Delta-branded apparel.

Food and Beverage

  • Food and alcoholic beverages may not be brought into any Delta Sky Club.
  • Food and beverages may not be removed from any Delta Sky Club.

Guests

  • Executive members may bring either two guests, or a spouse/domestic partner, and any number of children under 21. They can also bring 2 additional guests for $29 per club visit.
  • Guest and family privileges are only applicable when the visitors accompany the member.

Membership

  • Delta Sky Club Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.
  • Membership is effective from the date of purchase.
  • Membership may be terminated without compensation for not following the house rules.

Pets

  • Only dogs, cats, and household birds are permitted in Delta Sky Club. They must be at least 8 weeks old and must remain inside a closed kennel at all times.

See here for a detailed list of all Delta Sky Club rules and policies.

Delta Sky Club - Pros

  • Complimentary food and drink
A Delta Sky Club Membership pays off the best when it comes to Delta's food and drink offerings. Quality airport food is expensive - to say nothing of airport cocktails. If you purchase an individual membership and use a Delta Sky Club lounge twice a month, you're paying just over $22.50 per visit - which easily could be the price of a meal and a premium alcoholic drink at a restaurant.

  • Lots of U.S. locations
If you frequently fly Delta in the U.S., chances are you could be making good use of a Delta Sky Club lounge. (Especially if you frequently fly out of Atlanta, GA!)

  • Lots of ways to gain access
Accessing Delta Sky Club can be as easy as holding the right credit card or purchasing an upgraded airline ticket - buying an annual membership isn't the only option.

  • Great for long layovers and cancellations
Access to a Delta Sky Club lounge is nice when you have twenty minutes to spare before you need to head to your gate - but it's even better when you have a four-hour layover or your flight gets delayed a few hours. The comfort and luxury Delta Sky Club lounges offer can really improve the travel experience.

Delta Sky Club - Cons

  • Expensive
The price of a membership is high. It likely isn't worth the money unless you fly Delta very frequently.

  • Not always available
Even if you purchase a membership and fly Delta or its partner airlines, that doesn't mean there'll be a Delta Sky Club lounge in every airport. Hours are limited as well - lounges aren't open 24/7 like an airport is. Be sure to check locations and their hours below.

  • Fewer benefits, same cost
Delta recently cut some Delta Sky Club perks, though the cost of a membership has stayed the same. As of October 6, 2018, Delta Sky Club no longer offers meeting room services at any Club location. As of January 1, 2019, Delta Sky Club members may only use the Club in conjunction with same-day ticketed air travel on Delta or its partner airlines, and will no longer have access to partner lounges.

Bottom Line

Delta Sky Club offers a variety of amenities and perks that are sure to improve anyone's airport experience - for a price. That price might be worth it for you if you fly Delta very frequently. If you visit a Delta Sky Club lounge twice a month or more, the food and drinks you consume could potentially pay off your membership.

If you don't fly Delta quite as often but luxury is really important to you, joining the Club could still be a great option. The value of luxury and comfort is totally relative. Traveling can be hard, and Delta Sky Club is right there to make it better.

Of course, if you get free or discounted access with your credit card, visiting Delta Sky Club is pretty much a no-brainer.
