Tips and Tricks to Save Money at Stride Rite

Stride Rite shoes attract parents for their fresh fashions and high-quality materials and construction, but the retailer is also a turnoff to some parents because of their high price tags. If you know when to shop there and how to get the best deals, you can get decent prices and some news shoes for your tots. Read our tips and tricks to get the best deals at Stride Rite.

How to Get the Best Deals at Stride Rite

  • Sign up for Stride Rite Rewards. Join the free rewards program to get $10 in rewards for every $75 you spend. You’ll also get free standard shipping on orders over $35 and access to exclusive sales and discounts.

  • Sign up for emails. Subscribe to Stride Rite emails to get exclusive coupons, product announcements, and early access to sales.

  • Follow on social media. Stride Rite announces sales and new products on its Facebook and Twitter pages. It also runs giveaways and contests, such as handing out a free pair of shoes every week to a child who has submitted a picture.

  • Use a coupon code. Stride Rite usually has at least one coupon code available, typically for 10-40% off certain items, or discounts like buy one get one 40% off. A few times a year, Stride Rite will release a coupon for 20% off your entire purchase, which is sent first to email subscribers.

  • Bundle items. Shipping is based on the total of your order, meaning you’ll pay more to ship a more expensive order. However, bundle items into one order to pay smaller shipping fees. It’s cheaper to send one $40 order ($6.99 standard shipping) than to send two $20 orders ($4.99 standard shipping).

  • Return in-store. The return shipping is a flat fee of $4.99 and you can’t exchange online, meaning you’ll have to return and reorder a different item or size and pay shipping both ways. Save money by returning online purchases in the store for free.

  • Shop at the outlet store. If you live near one of the 72 Stride Rite outlet locations across the U.S., you can score even better deals. Outlet prices are already discounted, and outlet stores tend to follow the same sales as regular Stride Rite stores, giving you the opportunity to get an amazing deal.

  • Use a military discount. Stride Rite offers a 10% discount on all purchases to everyone who shows a military ID or enters a “.mil” email address online.

  • Try other online retailers. Stride Rite products can often be found at less expensive prices at other sources. The caveats here are that the inventory isn’t as large as on the Stride Rite website, and you don’t get the rewards points for your Stride Rite account. Daily deal sites Zulily and 6pm often sell Stride Rite products at discounts up to 50% off. Stride Rite products can also occasionally be found at Marshall’s and TJ Maxx.

  • Look on Amazon. Stride Rite has an official Amazon.com store where it sells a variety of products. Amazon prices tend to be the same as the Stride Rite website, but may occasionally be cheaper. You may also find that shopping at Amazon may get you a better deal in the long run if you can get a discounted Amazon gift card with one of your cashback credit cards or if one of your cards is offering a higher rewards rate when shopping at the e-tailer. Twice a year in February and August, Amazon releases a coupon code to save 20% off its Stride Rite selection.

When to Shop at Stride Rite

  • January and July. Stride Rite aims to clear out seasonal inventory in January and July, when it offers prices up to 60% off clearance items and free shipping.

  • February and September. The Baby and Toddler sale runs twice a year, featuring all baby and toddler shoes on sale with discounts starting around $10 off the normal price.

  • Mondays. Stride Rite occasionally runs online flash sales with discounts up to 70% off shoes and free shipping for one day only. Flash sales are typically held on Mondays and are announced via email and social media.

What to Buy at Stride Rite

  • Wide shoes. Few children’s shoe stores sell wide width varieties, but Stride Rite has a large selection. Wide width shoes go on sale as frequently as regular shoes and can be purchased with a coupon code.

  • Early Walkers. Stride Rite shoes are broken into three categories for walking development. The best shoes are in Step 2: Early Walkers. This stage, which has the highest developmental need for high quality shoes, is the largest selection at Stride Rite. Shop during a sale or use a coupon. Although these shoes are more expensive than other toddler shoes, the quality means they last much longer than cheaper varieties sold elsewhere.

  • Boots. Stride Rite sells supportive boots in all sizes. The boots are very high quality and will last for a long time. Stock up with sale prices at the end of winter for the following year.

  • The right size. Sounds obvious, but it can be really hard to gauge your child’s size if you don’t know for sure. There’s no harm in having a salesperson check out your kid’s size at the mall and then order online later on if you know you’ll get a better deal that way.

What Not to Buy at Stride Rite

  • Sandals. Although Stride Rite sandals are supportive, they aren’t as high quality and as necessary for kid’s developing feet. Most toddlers don’t wear sandals for very long periods of time, so spending more money on supportive sandals isn’t as important.

  • Crib shoes. Stride Rite’s shoes for newborn and infants are cute, but not necessary. The high price tag and good quality don’t matter very much when the baby is too small to move. Save money by buying cute crib shoes at a lower cost at big box or other baby stores.

  • Licensed shoes. Stride Rite has a large selection of licensed character shoes, including cartoon and Disney characters. These shoes tend to be a few dollars more expensive on average than almost identical styles without licensed characters.
