Pros and Cons

  • 5000 bonus point offer

  • Cannot carry a balance

Bottom Line

Good charge card for small business owners with reliable cash flow

Rewards Program

Every time you make a purchase with the American Express Business Green Card, you earn reward points. You earn 1 point for every dollar you spend on the card. You can also earn bonus points by making purchases through American Express. You get 2 points for every dollar spent with American Express Travel. You can also earn up to 10 points per dollar by shopping through the many retailers on the American Express reward website. There is no limit to the number of points you can earn per year and the points never expire. This rewards program applies both to your card and any cards you give to your employees. There is no fee to add employee cards to your account.

Once you’ve collected points, they can be redeemed for a variety of rewards. American Express offers a flexible rewards program for travel. You can convert your points into flights with any airline without worrying about blackout dates. You can also roll over your points into over 20 frequent flyer programs. If you aren’t interested in flights, you can use your points for hotel stays, merchandise, or as a credit to pay down your card balance.

Sign-up Bonus

Once you first get your American Express Business Green Card, you are eligible for a couple extra bonuses. After your first purchase, you receive an extra 5,000 bonus points to welcome you to American Express. In addition to the extra points, American Express also waives the card’s annual fee for the first year. After the first year, you’ll need to pay the $95 to keep your card active.

Flexible Spending

Running a business is not always predictable. Some months will have more expenses than others. If you use a business card with a fixed spending limit, you could run out of credit by the end of the month. The American Express Business Green Card does not have a set spending limit. This is because the Green Card is a charge card, not a credit card. You need to pay off your balance in full each month in exchange for being able to spend whatever you want.

Pros

  • Offers a 5,000 point bonus after your first purchase
  • Waives the annual fee for the first year
  • No pre-set spending limit
  • Earns reward points on all purchases. Earns extra points for purchases through American Express
  • Gives a huge selection of rewards, including free flights, merchandise, and cash back

Cons

  • Charges an annual fee of $95
  • Does not let you carry a card balance

Bottom Line

This is a good choice for a business owner that has steady cash flow and wants to get a high level of rewards for his business. To use this card, you must be able to pay off your balance each month.
