This would be unheard of years ago, but right now, banks and credit card companies are looking to get new customers. That means they're enticing them with jaw-dropping rewards, which could mean awesome perks for you.

The credit cards below all offer big sign-up bonuses, but there is more to a credit card than the short-term promo. You want the credit card that matches your lifestyle.

Keep in mind that if you spend less than $250/month, you might want to consider a cash back credit card.

Chase Sapphire Preferred: The Rewards Are Hard to Resist

If you spend over $1,334 per month on your credit card and like to travel:

Our favorite option is Chase Sapphire Preferred. It has a huge bonus points offer and premium travel benefits.

Chase Sapphire Preferred
Apply for Chase Sapphire Preferred Card
Chase Sapphire Preferred lets you earn 50,000 bonus points after you spend $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months from account opening. That's $625 toward travel when you redeem through Chase Ultimate Rewards®. You can earn 5,000 bonus points if you add your first authorized user and make a purchase within the first three months from account opening. This card lets you earn 2X points on travel and dining at restaurants & 1 point per dollar spent on all other purchases worldwide. The points can be transferred 1:1 to leading frequent travel programs including airline transfer partners. The card has a $0 foreign transaction fee. The card also comes with premium travel and purchase protection benefits (including trip cancellation/trip interruption insurance and auto rental collision damage waiver). There is an Introductory Annual Fee of $0 the first year, then $95.

Imagine what you could do with $625 extra dollars in your pocket.

You could hop on a flight to Las Vegas or book a weekend hotel stay in New York.

The ability to transfer reward points at a 1:1 ratio to leading airline and hotel loyalty programs is what really excites us about Chase Sapphire Preferred.

  • Airline transfer partners include Southwest Airlines, United Airlines, British Airways (oneworld), Air France (SkyTeam), Korean Air (SkyTeam), Singapore Airlines (Star Alliance), and Virgin Atlantic.
  • Hotel transfer partners include Marriott, Hyatt, IHG and the Ritz-Carlton.

Earn 1 point per $1 on all other purchases - with no limit to the amount you can earn. There are no foreign transaction fees. There is a $95 annual fee.

Business Owners

If you own a small business:

Business Gold Rewards Card
Apply for The Business Gold Rewards Card from American Express OPEN
Business Gold Rewards Card offers 50,000 Membership Rewards® points if you spend $5,000 with your new card within the first three months of opening your account. This card earns 3x points in 1 out of 5 categories and 2x points on the remaining 4 categories. Other purchases earn 1x points. The 3x and 2x apply to the first $100,000 in purchases in each of the 5 categories per year, 1x point per dollar thereafter. There is no foreign transaction fees. There is a $175 annual fee ($0 introductory annual fee for the first year). Terms and limitations apply.

Bottom Line

Credit card companies are now offering big incentives for new customers. That means you can take advantage of your great credit.

However, it might not be the right move for you if you fit the following criteria:

  • If you have credit card debt, consider a balance transfer credit card instead. Get out of debt first before you think about traveling more. While travel credit cards can help you score free flights and free hotel stays, vacations still cost money (e.g., eating out, buying souvenirs, visiting tourist attractions).

  • If you don't have great credit, consider credit cards for people with fair credit or no credit instead. While they don't usually come with bonus promotions, they do help get you on the path to responsible credit management.

  • If you don't spend more than $250 per month, consider a cash back credit card instead.

Terms and limitations apply.
